Punkin Pie - Broke Truck Good Luck Song
Aside from having a kickass name, Punkin Pie definitely has a kickass sound. This album is full of energy driving punk that will make you dance and shout from ex members of the band Rosa. Their boy-girl vocal bouncing is absurdly catchy especially in Cold and Clammy which is one of my favorites. Another great amateur feeling Plan-It X band.

Parts & Labor - Mapmaker
Hailing from Brooklyn, Parts & Labor are a boisterous bunch of art kids that combine sparse electronics, wiry guitars and pop hooks into uplifting experimental noise rock. I really have liked Fractured Skies for a while, such a great song. Such great beards too...

Beirut - Gulag Orkestar
While it may sound like an entire Balkan Orchestra playing modern songs as mournful ballads and upbeat marches, Beirut’s first album, Gulag Orkestar, is largely the work of one 22-year-old Santa Fe, New Mexico native, Zach Condon, and was almost completely recorded at home. Horns, violins, cello, ukuleles, mandolins, glockenspiels, drums, tambourines, congas, organs, pianos, clarinets and accordions (no guitars on this album!) all build and break the melodies under Condon’s deep-voiced crooner vocals, swaying to the Eastern European beats that sound like they’re being brought to you by a 10-member ensemble.

Tender Forever - The Soft and the Hardcore
Melanie Valera is the throbbing heart and head philosopher of the solo band, Tender Forever. She cut her performance teeth on the street of her hometown of Bordeaux, France, covering sixties girl bands standards for money for a whole year as part of The Bonnies. Along with this enriching, character-building experience, this hyperactive lady started a long-distance electro pop project with an American friend she had met on the very last day of her trip to S.F., Ca. Garrison Rocks, a spontaneous love-at-first-sight band, endured and evolved, up until becoming a Franco-American orchestra including 3 new members.

The Avett Brothers - Emotionalism
The Avett Brothers are a non-traditional bluegrass band that originated in Concord, North Carolina. The two brothers, Seth and Scott, formed the group after the breakup of the former rock band, Nemo, adding a third member, Bob Crawford. The Avett Brothers combine old-time country, bluegrass, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk and ragtime to produce a sound described by the Washington Post as “post civil-war modern rock”, or by other reviewers as “grungegrass”. The group themselves eschews labels, feeling that “none would do the music the justice.

The Can Kickers - Mountain Dudes
The Can Kickers play loud, fast old timey music with the occasional funky beat thrown in. Think what would happen if Minor Threat and the Ramones picked up banjoes and fiddles and joined a New Orleans-style second line and then threw in a washboard player. The Can Kickers like to play shows for people who like to dance.
This is great music that combines bluegrass and punk styles which is a gives a great background that makes you want to dance around and fight somebody.

Art Brut - Nag Nag Nag Nag (Single)
This is the single "Nag Nag Nag Nag" which has the song "I Found This Song In The Road" on the B-side. This is probably the only single that I own, I am not a very large fan of singles. Along with these 2 tracks, it has live tracks for other songs. Overall, I love this single and not only because we named the blog after it. Ok, that's a large plus, but give it a listen!

Art Brut - Bang Bang Rock and Roll
Art Brut, what can I say about them? I owe the name of this blog to them, they kick ass, and are from London. I'm going to admit that I didn't know about them before I became a contributor to the blog, but Emperor Norton chose it, not me. After looking them up in curiosity, I fell in love with the song Emily Kane. It's impossible to not enjoy Art Brut, well it might be. The lead singer's British accent is really neat, I love British singers.

The Octopus Project and Black Moth Super Rainbow - The House of Apples and Eyeballs
This album is a collaborative between The Octopus Project and Black Moth Super Rainbow, both the most unique electronic bands you will ever find. Black Moth Super Rainbow comes from Western Pennsylvania and sounds like a forest festival with magical fairies. The Octopus Project has pop beats fueled by synthesizer fun and assorts of other cool stuff. Instead of making a split like regular musicians do, they pretty much just merged into one super amazing band becoming the coolest sound that you will ever hear.

Page France - Come, I'm A Lion
Page France were an indie folk-pop music band. Their music tends to be emotional and their songs tend to have simple melodies. Page France is sometimes compared to Sufjan Stevens for their use of uncommon instruments such as the glockenspiel and banjo.
The band broke up in 2008. Frontman Michael Nau is now focusing his full attention on Cotton Jones, another reason why 2008 sucks.
Page France is also a rarity on the internet and links get taken down in above average speed so grab this one real fast and don't hesitate until tomorrow! Our other Page France album has been down since the first day it was posted and I still haven't downloaded it because I missed the link. If you have it, I want it because I've become a large fan of these guys.
Oh, and Page France is no a Christian Rock band so don't even try to pull lyrics and say they are religious.

As Tall as Lions - As Tall as Lions
Back to indie we go! As Tall as Lions is a great indie rock/alternative rock band that will just kind of make you feel good and relaxed. Not in an upbeat way, but in a sort of an ambient way. This is their 2006 album which is by far the best. Well, I like it the best, you never know.

A.A. Bondy - American Hearts
A.A. Bondy (aka Scott Bondy) is the former frontman of the band Verbena. American Hearts is his first solo release. He sings americana folk that reminds me of Bon Iver(He opened for him, so no surprise).

Paul Baribeau and Ginger Alford - Darkness On The Edge Of Your Town
This album wasn't on the schedule, but I just have to post this. I was making a mix cd for my dad and told him that "Born To Run" would be on it but a cover. So I showed him the song beforehand and was blasting it and my parents both being avid Bruce Springsteen fans hated it. According to my mom it sounds like some kids on a karaoke machine. According to my dad it sounds terrible and sounds nothing like Bruce and has no potential. According to my grandparents, "Anybody can sing these days, all they have to do is scream and it's like AAAAAHHH."
If you're under 40 and are a fan of Bruce Springsteen, this is probably the coolest album you will ever listen to. I am pretty sure I've got it covered.

Chuck Ragan - Feast Or Famine
Chuck Ragan was the guitarist and one of the lead singers for the band Hot Water Music until it disbanded. The remaining members joined the band The Draft, but Chuck was a soloist. He released this album in 2007 and it came out quite good.

Electric Laser People - Straight Talk on Raising Kids
Time for a kind of weird band, but they are ridiculously good. I can't describe them so I'll let last.fm do that for you.
“Electric Laser People take on old-school rap style in a whimsical manner by draping absurd lyrics over minimal electronic sound effects and guitar crunches, like a sonic merging of Ratatat and Licensed to Ill.”
- All Music Guide / Billboard.com
“1980s inspired dance rock with a good beat and hooks a crowd can sing too.”
- Boston Globe
“… innovative lyrics that look into the lives of teenagers.”
- BostonNOW
Oh, and they are tagged as "dirty water music, the dise, indierave" which is kind of intimidating. I swear, they are good.
Oh... and they give their album for free which is always a bonus

Honeywagon - Grass Stains: A Bluegrass Tribute to Blink 182
I found this tribute album in FYE while rocking out to the worst albums I could find. Then, I stumbled upon Honeywagon's bluegrass tribute to Blink 182 and I just had to listen to it. I started it up, laughing, but then was thrown back by how amazing it actually way. Blink 182 is one of my favorite bands of all time and I am a fan of bluegrass so the combination was shockingly good. So good.

Jeff Magnum - Live At Jittery Joe's
Jeff Magnum, lead of Neutral Milk Hotel does a live performance of Neutral Milk Hotel songs. He's really good live, and it makes me sad that he doesn't preform like this anymore. There's not much to say besides if you like Neutral Milk Hotel or want to try something good then get some of this. I suggest getting the studio album over this, I'm not big on live albums. There's a baby crying in the first couple songs, and it pisses me off. Enjoy?

Against Me! - As The Eternal Cowboy
Against Me! Has been recently added to my top 10 all time favorite bands and I’ve been meaning to post this album for a while now. This is their second album which switched them from No Idea to Fat Wreck Chords which made some fans concerned that they lost their DIY ethics. I’m a fan of DIY artists, but I don’t care in the case of Against Me! This album has been described by Tom Gabel the lead songerwriter of the band as “More punk” than their previous album Reinventing Axel Rose if that’s possible. It’s still got it’s folk punk core to it which is what I like about this album. Against Me!’s newer albums are even more punk than this album(If that’s possible). I’d offer songs to listen to, but I just recommend listening to this album straight through because all of them are amazing.

The Moldy Peaches - The Moldy Peaches
Yeah, I'll admit that this duo would never be famous if it wasn't for Juno, but that doesn't make them bad. The Moldy Peaches, consisting of Kimya Dawson and Adam Green are pretty lo-fi, but are such a good duo. What can I say? I'm a sucker for male/female voice clashing. Anyone Else But You is the cutest song ever and is really easy to play on guitar. Go ahead, impress your crush by playing "That song from Juno". Oh wow, I love and hate that movie.

Jukebox the Ghost - Let Live & Let Ghosts
Another fun indie pop band. Jukebox the Ghost was introduced to me by a girl who lives in my dorm and is really the most awesome person ever. "Hold it in" has an awesome music video that caught my attention with it's catchy love jingle and surprisingly good filmography. Normally, I don't like music videos, but I got into this band because they made me really happy inside that day. I hope they make you as happy as they make me! They are going on tour this summer with their new self-titled EP. I expect them to rival Vampire Weekend's audience approximately 4 months after this tour ends.

The Polyphonic Spree - The Fragile Army
What can I say? I'm humming along with these infectious indie-pop jams as I type this. It's like Tilly and The Wall with two dozen(Yes two dozen) members all dressed in brightly colored flowing robes and then throw in some gospel influence. This music is so uplifting, you'll be really happy after you listen to this album.

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
I promised IETF I wouldn't post anything under the genres folk or punk so I've contributed a day's postings to things that he won't hate(Or hopefully likes). Ok, so Arcade Fire is a band that is produced by the great country of Canada(Hear me out here!). They play what has been called orchestral rock including guitar, drums, and bass guitar, the band's members also play instruments such as the piano, violin, and viola. The band members are unimportant because they have Owen Pallett the one man band from Final Fantasy who is enough said there. I think you'll like these guys a lot if you haven't heard of them already.

I doubt any of you heard about a post I made a few weeks ago, but I got a nice little email that ultimately deleted my post and gave me a slap on the hand. Due to the controversy of such post I was not only discouraged but scared to post for awhile. So I decided to grow a pair....

The Ninth Day - Demo
This local metal band are a bunch of people that went to my school and are pretty cool. The music scene around here is pretty much only metal which kind of sucks being that one indie kid and no music scene to follow. Regardless, these guys are metal in every aspect of life and play some pretty good music. Enjoy this three song demo offered free on their myspace.

Darling's Cabinet of Sundry Horror - Darling EP
This is a local gothic rock band similar to the Birthday Party, The Horrors, Nick Cave and the Bad seeds, or Tom Waits. If you don't like those bands, you will probably like them anyways because I'm liking them a lot. The lead singer's voice is really neat(I can't think of what it reminds me of, comment if you know, it's killing me) and the organ lines are catchy as fuck giving it a deep gothic sound(It's good though, I promise!). The funny thing is, I was going to go to a show to see them and I decided against and then it was posted on my blog. They are have a New Jersey show on the 5th so you should probably go. The next band on the list I know personally which will also be there. This is a leak by Blair Kills so I hope you're happy, man!

The Devil is Electric – I’ve Never Trusted a Revolutionary Who Was Afraid to Dance
You'd think I was in love with Chris Clavin or something, but I'm really just theming certain days. You'll catch on to what's going on in the later days. Anyways, The Devil is Electric is post-Opperation Cliff Clavin, but pre-Ghost Mice and Captain Chaos era. Basically, an in between mosh of the three(Mostly Ghost Mice and Operation Cliff Clavin), the band members being Ghost Mice plus a drummer. Hannah and Chris were already preforming under Ghost Mice and when Grant(The drummer) quit, the band ceased to exhist and Ghost Mice was a full time operation.

The Connie Dungs & Operation Cliff Clavin - Split CD-EP
Well, let's start off with the Connie Dungs, a duo consisting of Brandon Tussey and brothers Chris and Wayne Griffith. They have a neat style, kind of weird vocals, but they aren't bad kind of like a Crass Ramones thing but not quite. Operation Cliff Clavin is young Chris Clavin being punk as fuck like what Connor Oberst did, but not as young and louder, having an early Chris Clavin wail of a voice leading it. I personally love this split.

Captain Chaos – The Fool
Captain Chaos is Chris Clavin's solo work, simply put. The name comes from a nickname given by Spoonboy(Another great artist and his roomate) that stuck and became his stage-name. It's just him, a guitar, and some cute lyrics. It's pretty much Ghost Mice toned down(What you'd expect his solo stuff to be). Some people enjoy his solo more than his work as Ghost Mice, but I think they are both pretty boss.

Ghost Mice – Debt of the Dead
Ghost Mice is a folky punky duo consisting of Chris Clavin and Hannah Jones. They focus on upbeat thoughts during hard times trying to spin a better outlook on a scary situation. No matter how depressing the lyrics get, Chris's trademark voice will always make you happy. Chris also fronts Plan-It X Records and is the theme of today's round of postings so you'll hear about him in the other posts. This is his current band although he does some solo stuff under the name Captain Chaos(And now he uses his real name). Look at other albums posted today for some of Chris's other bands.

Not much info on this band other than it's a Plan-It X freebie. I really like the female vocals and cute lyrics. I'm not really sure why they are so good to me, but they are.
Copied from last.fm:
This was a short lived Bloomington pop band along the lines of go sailor or cub.The band was 2 people, Casey on guitar and vocals and Chris Clavin on drums. They never got around to recording anything but once, Casey played live on the cool local radio station during women in music week. They only have one album, which is available online through plan-it x’s website.

First of all, I want to say sorry for the large gap of album per day ratio. We have received an email threatening our blog from blogspot itself saying that if we keep posting albums, they might shut the blog down. The blog is not going anywhere and posting will continue as usual but maybe slower as we figure out what to do. IF the blog gets deleted without warning, I will be backing up the blog in word hopefully soon and we'll work something out.
Onward! Paul Baribeau is another great folky punky beardy artist from the Plan-It X label which I'm a large fan of. With his witty lyrical content and unique voice he could be a new favorite up there with the likes of Andrew Jackson Jihad. I'm really digging his self titled album, but I'm also going to be upping his newest album Grand Ledge.

Mercury Rev - Snowflake Midnight
Mercury Rev has been floating around since 1984 yet obviously hasn't broke into the mainstream music. I suppose that's better for us then. What you're getting is a mellow chill out music for those cold nights. Chaotic instrumental bridges and the power of Orchestral influences pour from the seems of these songs. I guess the best way to describe these guys is "dream pop" as much as I hate to use that tag. As mentioned, the band has been playing together for nearly 25 years now, and each of them has mastered a piece of musical genius. So sit back, grab a nice fancy coffee, and relax to the therapeutic sounds of Mercury Rev.

Finally! Gypsy punk posted that isn't Gogol Bordello! The Zydepunks are a New Orleans folk punk band that incorporates various elements of gypsy punk using the according, fiddle, and drums. Yiddish riddles, Irish ballads, Cajun punk, and vocals in six languages are a small demonstration of why they astound new audiences. They have a very unique sound which I'm sure you'll love.

Front Line Assembly - Civilization
This is the first Front Line Assembly I've ever had, and is one of the best. Here, we can here Bill Leeb's over 20 years of experience come together and create a masterpiece. The first two tracks, Psychosomatic and Maniacal, are classic dancefloor stompers in the classic FLA style. The rest, however, show a deeper, more involved approach. The songs are more, well, ambient (lacking a better word). Tracks such as the title track and Transmitter are amazingly well put together songs that aim for someone other than the average industrial dance club attendee. They are masterful works of art (yeah I know I'm sucking a lot of dick here). That' s all I can say it is. Definitely an album for your industrial or electronica listener.

The Refreshments - Fizzy Fuzzy Big and Buzzy
I learned about this band when my English teacher played the song "Banditos" in class for a class project. I spoke with her about it after class and she told me the name of the band, and the name of the specific album it was on. She said that if I enjoyed punk rock at all then I'd like this album.
She was fucking right. This album is a beautiful piece of late 1990's rock, with awesome guitars, beautiful lyrics, and stories that make you think. Some specific songs I recommend on it are "Down Together","Mekong", and "Banditos".

Bomb the Music Industry! - Discography
Bomb the Music Industry! is a side project of Jeff Rosenstock of The Arrogant Sons Of Bitches but the two bands share members frequently. They are known for their DYI Punk ethic doing everything themselves and getting fans and friends involved in shows. They also distribute all of their music for free which is awesome aside from being a kickass band. Rosenstock uses in a lot of his songs nothing more than a powerbook and a microphone but still maintains his folk-punkyness.
Enjoy their music for free, it's a personal favorite(Click the side albums for download) Get the entire album or just individual songs.
