Pharoahe Monch - Internal Affairs

So i stole this from another blog. whatever.

I have only very recently found myself listening to Monch. Someone whom i already knew had skill from songs like Mos Def's 'Oh No' and the Anthem that is 'Simon Says', which is on here, byraway. This Album is entirely out of print apparently so if you like your Hip Hop and have never heard this, Download it, and listen to 'No Mercy' and 'The New Shit'... the dude's flow is just ridiculous. seriously, get this.

enjoy

Pete Murray - Summer at Eureka

Scrubs fans may already be familiar with this artist when the song opportunity was played at the end of the episode My Identity Crisis in season 7. Pete Murray is based in Queensland, Australia. From a man who a man who only started playing guitar at the age of 22, he's gotten better over time. Nominated for several ARIAs and had three #1 albums, this is the third album, a bit of soft rock that deals mainly with love and relationships.

Icon Of Coil - Serenity Is The Devil

Serenity Is The Devil, lead by Andy LaPlegua, who also does the electronic industrial acts Combichrist and Scandy, is a futurepop album with an aggressive edge. In IOC's debut full-length album, you will experience electronic dance music in its purist form. Andy does a great job creating a dancey type of music, and it is evident in almost all of the songs. Fiction, Shallow Nation, Floorkiller... All of them deliver the dance music you're looking for. But we can also hear the more delicate, introspective sounds of the group in the song Situations Like These. This was a landmark album in the futurepop genre, and perhaps one of the best out there. Highly recommended.

Tilt- Viewers Like You

When I was in grade eight I bought Viewers Like You at a tiny record store in my town basically because I though the cover was cool. For a long time after that, they were my favourite band.

I had stumbled like a blind fool upon one of the most awesome names in Punk music. I’ll admit that what really makes them great is their amazing lead singer, a hot punk rock girl named Cinder Block (this may not be her ACTUAL name). Tilt’s style varies from song to song, but their lyrics are always excellent and their songs are very melodic, especially for a punk band. Songs like War Room and Viewers Like You sound almost like Bad Religion with a dose of estrogen. Other key tracks are Die of Shame (about DIY abortion), Animated Corpse, and Mama's Little Man.

Before you get too excited about Tilt, I should tell you: they broke up in 2001. Lame.

Cinder Block sells artwork in California now.

Gogol Bordello- "Gypsy Punks- Underdog World Strike"

Why is Gogol Bordello so amazing? Can we point towards the band's ethnic diversity- its members hailing from at least nine different countries? Is it because they invented a new genre of music- Gypsy Punk? Or is it because one of the band T-Shirts depicts a girl sitting on a swing while receiving oral pleasure from a deer?

Whatever it is, Gogol Bordello is a shoe-in for your new favourite band. Imagine, if you can, the bastard love child of The Clash and The Sex Pistols, abandoned at birth and raised by Borat. Expect extremely high-energy punk music spoken both in English and in lead singer Eugene Hutz’s native Ukrainian. It’s difficult to pick out the best songs on this album, but Not a Crime, 60 Revolutions, and especially Start Wearing Purple are definitely key tracks.

FUN FACT: A female member of the band is allegedly dating Elijah Wood.

Babyshambles - Down in Albion

Babyshambles is a rock band from London, England. Formed by Pete Doherty after getting kicked out of The Libertines, their debut album Down in Albion was #10 on the UK albums chart and their first single Fuck Forever was #4 on the UK singles charts. I really like this album a lot and personally feel it's unique sound is top notch.

Also, I like Fuck Forever's single version enough that I found an mp3 of it. Enjoy.

Sebadoh - Harmacy

Hailing from Westfield, Massachusetts, Sebadoh is a rock outfit that plays good low-fi indie rock. The music on this album is erratic, switching intensity in a heartbeat, such as the hard-rock"Crystal Gypsy" to the mellow "Willing to Wait". This isn't to say that the music doesn't all have a central theme. To the contrary, the music seems to have a core sound to it, one that is unique to this album itself. Certainly an album to check out if you're a fan of any type of rock.

Pivot - O Soundtrack My Heart

Pivot are a 3 piece band from Sydney. This is their second album, and it's pretty hard form of music to describe, and many publications I've read on the genre of music seem to arrive at different conclusions. I suppose if anything it's a cross between post rock and a superb piece of electronica. To be honest, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter, because this is an awesome album that came out of nowhere for me and revealed some of the more underrated acts in Australia.

Shpongle - Nothing Lasts... But Nothing is Lost

This is by far the most beautiful mind-bending work of Shpongle. Shpongle is a Psybient music project with two members: electronic musician Simon Posford, and 67-year-old flutist and psychedelic trance revolutionary Raja Ram (creator of 1200 Micrograms). This album offers hypnotic melodies, powerful indigenous chants, and beats you could dance to. I used to listen to this while I napped in the library before class, just to liven me up. In advance I'll tell you this is a continuous album, and in my own opinion the most fun occurs on tracks 2 through 5.

Kings of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak

Kings of Leon is a band formed by 3 brothers and a cousin. They form a bridge between southern rock and garage rock. I've heard them be described as a modern Creedence Clearwater Revival. I saw them live at All Points West on Saturday and they shook the audience with their high energy and pleasing guitar solos. The album is definitely a great showing of what this band's potential is.

The Terrordactyls - Hoppy Birthday

From their myspace:
The Terrordactyls are Michael Cadiz and Tyrel Stendahl.

Michael was Born in Baltimore, Maryland. Tyrel is from Tukwila, Washington. Their birth places are the source of their magic, speed and unusually superior upper-body strength. They are both extremely lovable and popular individuals. Michael’s interests include: fabricating truths on job applications, multiple choice questions and running away. Tyrel enjoys guns, organizing his itunes music library and being good at life.

I only started listening to Devices quite a lot becaue Kimya Dawson was featured on the track. It turned out to be quite a good listen so I got the a free album on their website. Download it for a fun time.

Low - Things We Lost in the Fire

Very few albums can even touch this one. Low has always been known for their slow, sad songs, and Things We Lost is perhaps their most accessible one, and definitely the best one to start off with. The lead singer and female backup vocalist are just haunting with their voices. A few songs on here are so beautifully crafted they send shivers down my spine. Another thing to note is the slow, steady pace of the music. I believe the technical term for Low's genre is 'sadcore' or 'slowcore', but I just call it 'amazing'. This is an album that is truly an essential for any music lover. A++.

Billy Bragg- Back to Basics

Whether he is writing angry leftist diatribes or touching ballads, Billy Bragg is one of the most talented songwriters to ever stand behind an electric guitar. Using only his electric guitar and voice thick with British accent, this is a compilation of his first few E.P.s combined into one album. My personal favorites on the album are "To Have and To Have Not", "A New England" and "The Saturday Boy".

New Young Pony Club - Fantastic Playroom

The New Young Pony Club is based in London, England. I only heard this band at Splendor in the Grass on the weekend, but they got my attention. This is their debut album, a electronic piece with punk rock and pop influences. They are also signed up the the same record label as the previously reviewed Cut Copy and The Presets, Modular Records.

Girl Talk - Feed the Animals

Girl Talk is a mashup artist that creates dense songs of 11 layers or more. Now it seems he's using the same marketing idea as Radiohead's In Rainbows and making it a "Name your price" digital release. I like some of his sampling but I definitely selected "I don't respect artists that use sampled music" under why I chose to pay 0.00$. It's probably my favorite album by Girl Talk, so if you're into mashup this is a good choice.

Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains - Caught in the Act of Not Being Awesome

Johnny Hobo is a band that truly lives to it's name. A folk punk band from Vermont, the common theme of their music is getting drunk, drugs, anarchist revolutions, and traveling across country(mostly on trains). Johnny Hobo could usually be seen playing on the side of roads, and playing for small crowds. They are commonly described as "if Ghost Mice was getting drunk on a bus with Leftover Crack and picked up the Mountain Goats and a stranger with a bag full of coffee & narcotics" and it is a true description for the most part. "New Mexico Song" is one of my top played songs at the moment, give it a try.

Jonas Brothers - Jonas Brothers

The Jonas Brothers is kind of a local band dear to my heart that I've been meaning to share with the music
community. Seeing that they are from NJ, I felt they were necessary to post. These teenagers easily posses the talent and charisma that we've seen in such legends as Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and even as far as Elvis. Don't let the fact that they are on the Disney Channel ward you away, they are straight up Indie at heart. Think Connor Oberst and imagine the Jonas Brothers as the prequel to the next Bright Eyes! They are only 15, 18, and 20, so I hope to expect great things out of them in the future.

For future reference, this is a joke post. Continue to make ridiculous comments, though.
