Blackbird Raum - Swidden

Blackbird Raum is my type of band. A local group from Santa Cruz, California they preform gypsy pirate folk punk that is just about perfect. They preform on the streets and using accordions, banjos, pianos, washtub basses, and scream until they can't scream anymore. I've recently gotten back into them realizing just how awesome they are. Elise will probably be angry that I posted this because I found out about them from her, but she's late on it. Tell me if you like them, I have a couple more bands that are similar that I can post. I'll probably post them anyways because I know you'll like them... as in somebody will like them.

The Zydepunks - Finisterre

Finally! Gypsy punk posted that isn't Gogol Bordello! The Zydepunks are a New Orleans folk punk band that incorporates various elements of gypsy punk using the according, fiddle, and drums. Yiddish riddles, Irish ballads, Cajun punk, and vocals in six languages are a small demonstration of why they astound new audiences. They have a very unique sound which I'm sure you'll love.

Gogol Bordello- "Gypsy Punks- Underdog World Strike"

Why is Gogol Bordello so amazing? Can we point towards the band's ethnic diversity- its members hailing from at least nine different countries? Is it because they invented a new genre of music- Gypsy Punk? Or is it because one of the band T-Shirts depicts a girl sitting on a swing while receiving oral pleasure from a deer?

Whatever it is, Gogol Bordello is a shoe-in for your new favourite band. Imagine, if you can, the bastard love child of The Clash and The Sex Pistols, abandoned at birth and raised by Borat. Expect extremely high-energy punk music spoken both in English and in lead singer Eugene Hutz’s native Ukrainian. It’s difficult to pick out the best songs on this album, but Not a Crime, 60 Revolutions, and especially Start Wearing Purple are definitely key tracks.

FUN FACT: A female member of the band is allegedly dating Elijah Wood.
