Hop Along - Tibetan Pop Stars

This is a new track by Hop Along was posted. The album will be released April 1st, but knowing the irony of that date, it won't actually be released out on that date. Francis takes forever to write, but this is fantastic.

Across The Border - Crusty Folk Music For Smelly People

A beautiful album full of very big sounding songs. I don't know a whole lot about this band, for the amount of plays they have on last.fm, there is a surprisingly little amount of information that I was able to uncover. What I can tell you is that they have been around and making music in Germany since the early 1990s and that what they do play is a very good mix of both German and Irish influenced folk, punk, protest music, and rock. Driven mainly by accordion and fiddle, they play some very long songs that manage to retain your attention the whole way through. The songs are very complex, very musically tight with a quite varied instrumentation, and occasionally include great vocal harmonies reminiscent of Chumbawamba. This album is a very fun listen, I recommend you download it.

Note: Not my link, it was too big to upload to mediafire.

Enjoy!

Spraynard - Copy Paste

Alright, this album is titled Copy & Paste and its by Spraynard. They are a small band from Pennsylvania that sings pop-punk. Their music is catchy as all get out, and the way the guitars and drums work together is wow. Seriously, just listen to the album and you'll understand. It kinda reminds me of Latterman's "No Matter Where We Go..!".Anyway,this is an awesome band and thanks go to Andy for suggesting it.

As an added bonus you can Legally download it from ifyoumakeit.com by clicking here. You can also buy the LP at runner up records.

Starflyer 59 - Americana

Starflyer 59 is an amazing band. Jason Martin is an amazing musician. Americana is an amazing album. This album is the Starflyer 59 that comes to mind when I think of Starflyer. The guitars roared with some of the heaviest and best used distortion on any Starflyer release. Jason's voice was just as quiet and haunting on this album as it was on Gold. The songs crafted for this release are some of the best, not always the most memorable, but amazing songs. If the first three songs don't blow your mind then I don't know what will

Darla Farmer - Rewiring the Electric Forest

Often the genre of 'experimental' is fully exploited to just be a nicer word for 'We really don't have any direction. No, really.'
Darla Farmer purifies the rep with their 2008 release Rewiring the Electric Forest. Out of Nashville, the band's name was inspired by a plain Nashvillian bank teller. This really juxtaposes the fundamental dark horror-punk Darla Farmer is. Horror-punk is the foundation they always seem to return to on Electric Forest, but the experimental bit I mentioned earlier takes shape in the inklings of anything from cabaret to ska on the record. Clint Wilson's erratic vocals matches the unpredictable tone of the record, heard in 'Dirty Keys' which is mostly him doing a combination of a retch-scream. Those bits of the album are a little difficult to palette at first, but once you manage, you're left with an album that satisfies every one of your weird music fetishes.

Thriving Ivory - Thriving Ivory

Here's something from my home state of California for you faithful bloggers. Although I will admit this genre is a little outside the norm of our indie-rock/underground rap/folk rock/punk rock/etc posts, it is definitely worthy of a mention. I am really sticking my e-rep out on this one but even if a few people enjoy it, I've done my job. What you get to look forward to with this band is Adult Contemporary piano rock meets Smashing Pumpkin's Billy Corgan. I'm just going to say it, don't knock it till you try it.

Songs worth a Listen: Angels on the Moon, Hey Lady, and Overrated.

The Heavy - Great Vengeance & Furious Fire

The Heavy have taken the raw roots of modern rock and elaborated them to a whole new level. What you'll notice right away is the gritty distortion of the instruments and the powerful soul of a blues singer. This band has taken the two things modern rock has been trying to purify and has twisted it into a metaphorical arm-bar, and it has never sounded better. The song "Colleen" is sure to get things rolling for The Heavy since it is featured in Burton's new snowboard DVD "It's Always Snowing Somewhere" (I did not find the band because of this though.) So before this song/band gets played out, I have brought it forth to you to enjoy and share.

Songs Worth a Listen: Colleen, That Kind of Man, and Set Me Free.
