Here's the second band I was asked to review, The Joint Chiefs of Math. The Joint Chiefs of Math are a duo consisting of two lads named Kevin and Marcus. Together, they have crafted a bizarre, messy, noisy, dissonant masterpiece. Marcus plays drums like a hyperactive seizure made coherent through conscious thought and Kevin covers all the strings in a wild blaze of sound, not as wild as a group like Lightning Bolt, but somewhat close. In fact, I'd venture to say that these guys are a coherent version of groups like Lightning Bolt, playing a safer, but very satisfying version of that intense sound (minus the screaming and the fact that Lightning Bolt uses only bass whilst these guys have a guitar). Check 'em out and you won't be disappointed.

The Ninth Day - Demo

This local metal band are a bunch of people that went to my school and are pretty cool. The music scene around here is pretty much only metal which kind of sucks being that one indie kid and no music scene to follow. Regardless, these guys are metal in every aspect of life and play some pretty good music. Enjoy this three song demo offered free on their myspace.

Ministry - Psalm 69

When it comes to quintessential industrial albums, Psalm 69 ranks right up there with NIN's The Downward Spiral. The industrial metal that has made Ministry famous is most prevalent in this disc, from the singles 'NWO' and 'Jesus Built My Hotrod' to the hidden gems of 'Corrosion' and 'Grace'. The speed and brutality here is so amazing that Ministry has been having a hard time making an album that can reach the high position that this one has in the eyes of the industrial world. If you are a fan of either industrial or metal, this album is a must. It was a milestone of both when it was released, and has remained one of the dominating forces those genres. A must have.

Dethklok - The Dethalbum

From the TV metal-head show Metalopocalypse comes Dethklok. Blacker than the blackest black times infinity, they are regarded as the greatest band in the world and are constantly being plotted against for holding too much world power. The lineup as described by the Metalopocalypse theme song is “Skwisgaar Skwigelf taller than a tree, Toki Wartooth not a bumblebee, William Murderface Murderface Murderface, Pickles the Drummer doodily doo ding dong doodily doodily doo, Nathan Explosion". Dethklok displays a range of styles from death metal and melodeath to symphonic black metal. The bonus CD which is included in the download has some of my favorites like “Murdertrain a Comin'”, “Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle” and “Blood Ocean”. On the main album, take "Briefcase Full of Guts", "Bloodrocuted", and "Thunderhorse" for a ride.
