Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Vol 2

Immortal Technique is a popular rapper, political activist and quite often a combination of the two. He mixes his Harlem story with revolutionary ideals to become one of the most political rappers that you will ever see. I wonder if he hates Bush....

Phideaux Xavier -- Doomsday Afternoon

Phideaux Xavier is an american TV director that also makes pretty kickass music. His style is self described as "psychedelic progressive gothic rock", and sounds somewhat similar to that of the great Pink Floyd. Doomsday Afternoon is one of his better albums, the melodies are like delicious ice cream for the ears and the lyrics(when present) are quite simply astounding.

Utica - Algal Bloom

Utica is a band I found out from my brother the summer before my freshman year in high school. All I know is that they are pretty awesome and that they have a myspace that they don't use anymore. They are pretty local to me, so nobody you know is really going to have heard of them.

Deerhunter - Cryptograms

Well, there's some good news and some bad news.

The good news is, you get an album today, and it's a pretty good 'um. The bad news is since nobody's posted in a couple days, I had to find a quick link. I uploaded Cryptograms for a friend, so that's what you get: the second album by the quirky Atlanta "ambient punk" quintet, critically acclaimed by Pitchfork, etc. It's a bit polarizing at some points but, as many indie kids will attest, it's an enthralling listen (full of personal demons, loneliness, and death. Fun times!) For those of you who haven't heard it yet, this comes recommended.

EDIT: Insert shit comment about two "Deer_" bands being posted relatively close to one another.

Tally Hall - Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum

Tally Hall is an indie rock band from Ann Harbor, Michigan famous for their trademark ties. Gaining popularity through their popular music video for Banana Man, they have become an internet sensation through the internet site Albino Blacksheep. They have recently gained a record deal with Atlantic Records and are re-releasing the album on April 1st.

Download the Quack! Media record label version and be sure to buy the Atlantic Records re-release on April 1st which has the entire album touched up to perfection(I'm not sure if it's possible to make this album better, though)

Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours

Daft Punk seem to have done wonders to the Australian techno industry. This is the second techno artist I promised a few weeks back. The first released track, Hearts on Fire was played at the Daft Punk tour, and it was only after further investigating the song's source that I discovered this. This is their second album and it's fanbase has been further strengthened by a considerable amount of airtime on one of only two good Perth radio stations, Triple J.

Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice - Jesus Christ Superstar

The classic 1970 rock opera, (colorfully) detailing the relationships between Jesus, Judas Iscariot, and Mary Magdalene. It's such a kickin' piece of musical history that it's claiming our Easter slot AND the 50th post. Hooray, Jesus!

Deerhoof - Reveille

I like it, I like it a lot. Very fun, refreshing album, and an excellent representation of Deerhoof doing what they do best. Satomi's childlike vocals really add a sense of playful pop sensibility to the otherwise discordant, experimental song structures. Enjoy.

Radiohead - OK Computer

I promised I'd post a better Radiohead album since Drill EP so I posted an album often cited as their best work. The album focuses on themes such as consumerism, social disconnection, political stagnation and modern malaise although it is not a concept album. Around 35% of the album was recorded in a converted apple shed near Didcot, Oxfordshire.

All Time Quarter Back - All Time Quarter Back

Ben Gibbard with detuned guitars and broken keyboards for songs that don't fit Death Cab for Cutie. Lyrics like "Breaking into houses for the sheer fun of it, was funny at first" from the opener plans got complex got me hooked and I keep coming back to this album to re-appreciate it's quirky charm.

The Horrors are a British garage rock band. Known for their strange dress and obscure influences, they have reached #37 on UK album charts and have become one of my favorite bands ever through "Death At The Chapel" and "Sheena is a Parasite".

Savage Garden - Truly Madly Completely - The Best of

Savage Garden were like a shining beacon of light to me during the 90's when bands like the Spice Girls and Hanson where popular >:( These guys, much like Silverchair, were decent musicians that made solid music that appealed to a large audience. Catchy, upbeat and although a little sappy, they were a band I enjoyed that didn't require gimmicks, swearing or angst to make themselves popular. This is their greatest hits, combining most of their released tracks from their two albums and a few B-sides at the end. Because this album has 17 tracks and is over 100MB in total, I've separated it into two zip files:

Sorry about Rapidshits, but Megaupload is being a pain in the arse at the moment.

65daysofstatic - One Time for All Time

65dos is an instrumental post-rock band, and this is their sophomore full-length. Full of catchy anthems, high-energy electronica, and some epic bits for good measure. Other than Mogwai, this is the first post-rock band I ever got into, and for good reason; their song structure, composition, instrumentation... all quite stunning. Don't you miss this.

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend

After hearing about them from a friend, seeing them on SNL the same night, and hearing about them constantly, I figured Vampire Weekend was getting some pretty heavy recognition. There is not one song on this album that I don't like. Start liking them before Z100 or something picks up on this because they are bound to get pretty big. Trust me on this band.

Bear vs. Shark - Right Now, You're in the Best of Hands...

Bear vs. Shark is an extremely unique post-hardcore band citing influences from The Clash, Fugazi, and Motown. I'll admit I found this band while looking for the legendary Bearshark. Although I was disappointed that they didn't take their name from the SNL skit or from Homestar Runner, their sound amazed me. Like most post-hardcore bands, they use fast paced lyrical poetics to produce something out of the ordinary.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1P1TLJFU

The full title for this album is "Right Now, You're in the Best of Hands. And If Something Isn't Quite Right, Your Doctor Will Know in a Hurry", but it is commonly called "Right Now, You're in the Best of Hands..." because it's way too long.

Silverchair - Young Modern

It has been argued by many that post their Neon Ballroom album, Silverchair have become shit. The front man Daniel Johns had been battling a severe case of arthritis making it difficult to play guitar as well as he used to. I admit the Diorama album was less than average, perhaps because everyone had expected the same edgy group responsible for hits such as Freak and Anthem For The Year 2000, but I have been a long time fan of this group, and decided to pick this up. While I had been hoping for something a little edgier, the album still delivers some fine music with catchy tunes and solid vocals, to make this unique in it's own right. From the title track of Straight Lines to my personal favorite Mind Reader, Download it and have a listen. If you listen with an open mind, you might be surprised.

Horse the Band - R. Borlax

I've been meaning to proclaim my crush for Horse the Band for a while now. This metalcore, sometimes nintendocore for their game references and synth use, is one of my favorites. Nathan Wenneke's voice, even while screaming, sounds like it was made for the part. The lyrics are sometimes incompressible and stray from sincerity with references to games and sampling game soundtracks in some of their songs. Horse the Band's 2003 album R. Borlax is their first full length studio album but it is one of my favorites.

Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam

Experimental Indie New York based band from Baltimore Maryland. Strawberry Jam, their latest album truly sets them apart from other Indie rock artists, along with providing some delicious looking cover art.
I hear "Peacebone" is amazing when you are high, though I don't do drugs and haven't experienced it. It's pretty mind-blowing sober, so I can imagine it being a ridiculous experience while intoxicated. The other single, "Fireworks", is also a great track to take a look at.

Muscles - Guns Babes Lemonade

Muscles already seems to be quite popular with Americans. After 11 gigs last year, he was only found by me when I discovered his name on the NeverEverLand flyer (the Daft Punk tour from last year) and connected his name to one I'd heard on a radio station a few weeks prior. This is his debut album, an ambient electronic piece, a style of techno that seems to be getting a high play count in my collection of late. If someone has actually seen this guy live, please let me know what it was like, because he missed coming to Perth due to illness.

The Melvins - Houdini

Houdini is widely cited as the Melvin's high point. Since the Melvins was one of Kurt Kobain's favorite bands, he decided to co-produce 1, 7, 8, 9, 12 and 13 along with the Melvins. According to King Buzzo, he didn't do much but turn knobs and sleep, though. Kobain did help by playing guitar on Sky Pup and being part of the percussion in Spread Eagle Beagle.

Soul Coughing - Ruby Vroom

Critically praised 1994 debut by the seminal New York "slacker jazz" outfit; an upright bass, drums, extensive samples, and leader M. Doughty's stream-of-consciousness lyrics make this album a very groovy, captivating listen. Sadly, they disbanded in 2000, but not before recording two more full-lengths. Don't miss the standout track, "Screenwriter's Blues".

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XWRNMLAY

P.S. - Troll, your comment about Melvins references in Juno is totally baseless. I think the whole movie should have been nothing but dudes and ladies discussing Melvins, with a little teen pregnancy mixed in for zest.

Juno - OST

Soundtrack of the award-winning movie Juno released in 2007. Classic artists like Buddy Holly and The Kinks are combined with lesser knowns like Sonic Youth, The Moldy Peaches, and Cat Power to portray the aura of the movie. In my opinion the movie needed less Melvins references and more soundtrack appearances.
