Against Me! - White Crosses

Against Me! has a new album coming out called White Crosses that leaked. This is that leak. To be honest, it's like New Wave kind of feel starting off with the title track which is gonna be their single most likely. They've become more mainstream definitely. Maybe them leaving Fat Records made them less appealing or I'm just being conservative that "Oh, the band has changed so I don't like them". Either way, this album is pretty good, but I do miss their "As The Eternal Cowboy" sound. Tom Gabel's statement on the leak was "Our new album "White Crosses" leaked. No drama. For those of you who have heard it and would like to read the lyrics, here you go!" The lyrics and everything can be found on his blog at:

:( I find this a little bit upsetting. Not into this record at all.

I was listening to it and then after it was done it started playing The Acoustic EP and I was like "Yeah! This album is really picking up!" When I realized what had happened, I was disapointed too.

it really saddens me when I remember how much i loved against me and how perfect their first few albums seemed. now they're just another band.

How do albums leak? I mean, don't they have control over the master tape at some point? Seriously, someone needs to get the shit together. That being said, I agree with Jesse and I automatically play the acoustic album after trying New Wave or this album. I mean, it's progression and perhaps in a negative way, but that acoustic album is so good.

I saw them play the new songs a few months ago and really like them. I'll have to check this out when I get home. I'll probably buy the records and enjoy it.

You do realize that Tom was a teenager when he wrote most of the songs we have come to grow and love by Against Me? He's not a teenager anymore so a lot of the stuff he wrote songs about then I highly doubt he has as much interest or applies to him as much anymore now that he's older. Seeing as how that's the case this is the direction that Against Me is traveling. I see it as a much more mature rock band rather than an angsty teenage driven folk punk band that they were when Tom and Kevin first started playing in Laundromats in 1998. Not that it was bad by any means. I'm just saying give the band a break and let them do what they want. Don't complain about how it's not another axl rose or crime ep because those records are long and gone for AM!. So if you want to show your true disapproval then don't buy the record and move on and listen to something else and don't talk about it. Negative press is better than no press at all.

I don't think I dislike it, I just don't think it stands out like their other work.

I love reading comments about against me. Apparently every release is never as good as the one before. And apparently everyone has memories of them when they were "awesome" as if several songs recorded on a tape in a garage, full of angst, will forever define Against Me!.

"Remember when they weren't on a major?"
- "Yea they were so much better"

yet like 5-6 years ago it was all

"Remember when they weren't on Fat"
- "Yea they were so much better"

Im not saying the Album is good or bad, and I definitely agree with what many of you are saying, I just think we all are chasing after the euphoria we felt when we first heard against me in our teens instead of accepting that it wont happen again.

The solo thing of tom sounds really good if he plays it live and acoustic...

When "New Wave" came out i was really disapointed. Well, i thought their next album would might be as good as usual but "White Crosses" is so damn boring. I tried to get into it again and again. I'm done with this...

This is not Against Me anymore.
I just want to remember their fucking great former things...

I feel sorry for the guys who tatooed Against Me...

I mean I'm all about "change is the only constant" and "bands grow up" or whatever, but this is a whole new band.

I love their older stuff, but their sound has changed as they have matured as people. I am okay with that. It's not the "same" band, but I still enjoy listening to the band. I just won't be going to shows anymore (granted, I stopped after Searching... came out)

I just did a review of their "oops" leaked album too. I totally agree that it's more mainstream, and that's fine. I just miss Tom's voice! I'm sure they'll find lots of new listeners, but I'm praying the live show is still grumbly-snarly-growly like Against Me! should be!

I like reading this stuff too because people have strong opinions and it represents a prevalent issue in the world of music. I agree that the new album is decent but doesn't really do it for me the way RAR and EC did. I sort of think Bomb the Music Industry picked up where against me left off.

White Crosses KICKS ASS. Yes, it's more accessible, but they can't make the same record over and over, ya know? And if Butch Vig was good enough for Nevermind and Cobain, I say he's good enough for Against Me!

Forget what this album *isn't*, it kicks major ass. Should really come alive, live too.
