Mighty Joseph - Empire State

Chances are, if you're up to speed on Indie Hip Hop then you'll be aware of Mighty Joseph (Vast Aire & Karniege) and this frankly awesome release. If the name doesn't ring any bells because you've perhaps only dabbled with Indie Rap then you should at least be familiar with the standard setting release that was 'The Cold Vein' by one of this era's most pivotal rap duos... Cannibal Ox (Vast Aire & Vordul Mega) though, dont hold your breath for a direct sequel. This is more of your standard Hip Hop affair absent of any of EL-P's wildly titanic soundscapes with production duties spread out across a selection of producers including Madlib and the late Camu Tao. In short, i do really like this record... and i only downloaded it yesterday. enjoy folks.

Invincible- Shapeshifters

Honestly, I don't know much about her. I think she runs a feminist movement as well as making records or something.

What I do know, is that she makes one hell of a hip-hop record.

Mercenary - The Hours That Remain

This is the third album by Mercenary and has a much more progressive approach than their noticably heavier albums (which I'll upload at somepoint). It has a good balance between harsh vocals and heavy riffs but compromises with clean vocals too.

A good album, one of my favourites. I prefer their previous album because it's heavier sounding, but this one's easier to listen to.

Rosetta - The Galilean Satellites

The hulking 2005 debut album of Philadephia's Rosetta is one of the most ambitious "post-metal" releases of the decade; it consists of two discs - one heavy, one ambient - that can be played synchronously to produce a full auditory experience. It amounts to nearly 120 minutes of sludged-out art metal and post-hardcore, and while it isn't an easy listen, it's always an exciting one.

Mansun - Six

Mansun was a Britpop band, in the loosest sense of the word. They liberally and successfully incorporated prog and psychedelica into their act, giving them an experimental flavor that was unfortunately lost amongst the Blurs and Oases of the time. This 1998 release has the dubious distinction of being one of the most underrated British albums in recent memory. It really is up there with the great concept albums of all time, and to not hear it in its entirety would be a crime against music. Their debut album, Attack of the Grey Lantern, was received better by the music community, but this is definitely the more intriguing, rewarding listen.

Surface Empire - Lucky Me EP

Surface Emp are Hudson Mohawke and Dom Sum, a respective producer and emcee from Glasgow who have recently started making some global moves. Especially Mr. Mohawke who was recently signed to the mighty Warp. this was recorded way back in 2005 when these two were but humble scottish lads. not that it compromises their skills though. check it out;

Sash! - Trilenium

One of a handful of dance artists to survive the millennium, this is the third album from German Trance DJ Sash!. The album is best known for the track Adelante, yet there's a variety in the songs to appeal to everyone from the slow ambient sounds and voice of Tina Cousins to the funky upbeat tracks like My Kind of Blues. It's a good addition to any techno collection, and he was a popular artist for trance enthusiasts like myself for many years.

Shellac - 1000 Hurts

Shellac or Shellac of North America is a band lead by Steve Albini who also lead epic bands like Big Black and Rapeman. He also estimates that he's engineered the recording of around 1000 albums in his lifetime. The simplistic math rock sound does not use the typical sort of structure in which you are used to. The minimalistic noise rock heavy rhythms are put to sarcastic and humorous lyrics. This is one of my favorites.

I:Scintilla - Optics

I:Scintilla is an absolutely amazing band I stumbled across one day searching for electronic music. The blend of rock and electronic is perfect, and the lead singer, Brittany Bindrim, is absolutely amazing. Her voice hits every note, and is at times so sublime it will send shivers down your spine. Bands such as Leather Strip and Combichrist have singled the band out for remixes of their own, showing the great appeal of this band. Music that can satisfy both the clubs and those looking for a complex, engaging listen.
