OST - Romper Stomper

There's a lot of racist people on ABS. Most of it is just to be funny, but as to whether you share the same view on this soundtrack, well, that's another matter. This is from the controversial Australian film Romper Stomper, and it marked the beginning of Russell Crowes acting career. While the film wasn't particularly mind boggling, it's soundtrack provides quite an almost laughable pace for the Neo Nazis who are angered at the spread of the Vietnamese in their community.

The Aquabats - Charge!!

The Aquabats are quite possibly the absolute best superhero/pop band you'll ever meet. Their roots start with a poppy-ska, and after misplacing their horn section settled on a keyboard. Their roots even contain Travis Barker, who drummed for their 1996 album The Fury of the Aquabats! (pre Blink-182).

Charge!! is their latest album. It's full of super-poppy anthems and an overall fun feel. Songs like Nerd Alert! and Look at Me (I'm a Winner) poke fun at the idea of what "cool" is in a hoky yet lovable sort of way. The Aquabats embrace the idea of individuality...through uniforms. Their shows resemble a Saturday morning cartoon show, with an enemy and cereal commercials to match.

Overall, The Aquabats are an adorable sort of band you can love. Or at least I do.

Mindless Self Indulgence - You'll Rebel To Anything

You'll Rebel To Anything was my first Mindless Self Indulgence album, and has remained in heavy rotation for me, along with almost any other MSI album. It's truly great stuff. Though classified as 'Shock Rock', I really don't find them very shocking (if you want shocking, check out Alien Vampires. With songs like 'I Fuck Nuns' and 'Fuck You We're Dead', they're a bit more in the shocking field. If you can understand what they say), but I still really like their sound. Very lighthearted in their lyrical content (under educated/over caffeinated/I just masturbated), one doesn't have to worry about them being to serious. The music itself is like a combination of hard rock with punk influences combined with dancey synthesizer sounds, creating one of the most fun listens I've ever had. Highlights include 'Straight To Video' and 'Stupid MF', but all the songs here are really really good.

First post! Hope you like.

Home video is a relatively new band (Their first and only album came out in 2006) that I found while listening to my pandora (pandora.com; best music site ever). They have a kind of dreamlike quality to them that has a dance feel to it, while still remaining mellow. Classified as Indie Rock/Pop by the site that I got it from (don't really trust its classifications, but Indie sounds like a decent enough term).

Eiffel 65 - Europop

In 1999, the song Blue by this band became #1 in the Australian music charts. 9 years later, my brother obtained this album, and after hearing it, I'm impressed how well it's aged. Old school europop makes up most of my 90's dance music and this is a good addition to that. Though Blue and Move your body are the most well known tracks, it's unfortunate that Too Much of Heaven, my favorite song on the album didn't get the attention it deserved when it was released commercially.

Reverend Glasseye and His Wooden Legs - Black River Falls

Reverend Glasseye and His Wooden Legs could be best described as if Gogol Bordello was born on the right side of the tracks....and in the 1800's. The Reverend puts a spin on the emerging genre of folk punk by adding a diverse brass section. Whether it be the latin influenced style like in "One More Smoke" or the song "Midnight Cabaret" sounding like the south park theme song, every song on the album seems to submerge itself into a different genre of music. Song worth a listen: Midnight Cabaret, 50% Murder, No Road out of Houston, and One More Smoke.

Here is a band I found by mistake. Foals is reminds me of a darker version of vampire weekend also without the hollister trendsters. The band is highly recommend live not only for their stage presence, but their overall musicianship. Song worth a listen: Olympic Airways, Cassius, Balloons.
