Younger Siblings - Bald Eagles Aren't Actually Bald

I really like this 7" from Birmingham, AL's Younger Siblings. There are are a lot of different influences on display here, from 60's pop and surf rock to the more toned down elements of Bomb The Music Industry's recent album. Overall, it kind of sounds like grainy, analogue indie colliding with Bright Eyes with John Flansburgh on vocals. There is also a slightly twee undertone which reminded me of certain Dead Milkmen songs, which is always a plus point, and the whole thing is drenched in analogue distortion, reverb and even a little bit of slapback which gives a nice organic feel. My only real problem is that the first song, 'Pure Mechanical Failure' is, in my opinion, a lot stronger than the other tracks, and this disparity in quality started to get to me on the third or fourth listen. It's not that the other two songs are bad, far from it, they just aren't as good as the opener.  Overall though, this is a great little 7" and I will definately be keeping an ear out for what they do in the future.

Future Islands - Wave Like Home

I'm not totally sure why, but this is one of my favorite albums ever. It has some of the catchiest songs ever written, great lyrics, and very interesting musical parts. Their singer's voice is almost hypnotizing, scratchy and raw sounding but somehow very comforting. I saw them opening for Dan Deacon about a year and a half ago and I was blown away by their set. This album has a really great flow as well, it should be listened to beginning to end over and over again.

Here it is, old friend.

Chris Clavin - The Roads Don't Lead home, The Roads Lead Everywhere

Like most of Chris's work, this album focuses on everyday life. This one is centered more specifically around traveling, and it is the kind of thing that makes you want to go everywhere. I like this because it seems to sort of follow the history of Plan-It-X, beginning in Bloomington and ending in Gainesville. I am going to Wisconsin this week so I will probably be listening to this a lot on that trip. It is really a great album, if you like his work as Captain Chaos, this is pretty much the same type of thing, just released under his own name.

Here ya go!

Spoonboy - I Love You; This Is a Robbery

Hey everyone, here's Spoonboy's album I Love You; This Is a Robbery. Spoonboy is the singer/guitarist/songwriter for the DC pop punk band The Max Levine Ensemble. For anyone who doesn't know TMLE, I highly recommend checking them out, you can download all of their stuff on their site.

If you don't want to check them out on your own, I will probably post some of their music later. Anyway, I Love You; This Is a Robbery is, in my opinion, one of the best Plan-It-X releases and one of the best folk/pop/punk records out there. The songs are super catchy and easy to sing along to, but also very emotional and easy to connect to. Spoonboy also does a lot of touring, if he comes to your town you should really go see him, he is a very nice guy who plays great music.

Failed Attempts at Facial Hair - Girls, Friends, and Girlfriends

Hey everybody, I'm gonna start off by, like many people below me, introducing myself. My name is Jake and I am from Ardmore, Pennsylvania. It's outside of Philly.

Ok. Failed Attempts at Facial Hair is John Crodian singing songs with a ukulele, a guitar, and even unaccompanied. His songs are about everything from bad haircuts to sleeveless t-shirts to falling in love outside a Napalm Death show. You should listen to this album if you need music to affirm what you are feeling, whether that is contentment, alienation, or anything in between. These songs ring true for anyone who has ever grown up in the suburbs or been through high school and they need to be heard by everyone.

Computer vs. Banjo - Computer vs. Banjo

The name of the Nashville band Computer Vs. Banjo says it all: Johnny Mann and Beau Stapleton blend folky banjos and acoustic guitars with synth-heavy electronica and experimental beats. The computer tends to win the battle on the group’s self-titled debut, but countless computerized samples of more traditional instruments give the record an eclectic, genre-bending sound.

Lily Allen - It's Not Me, It's You

I never heard Lily Allen before this album and the day I decided to try something by her, I found a leak of this album. This album has more of a pop feel that her earlier albums which had more of a ska feel. I keep hearing a lot about this album and this artist. Yeah, I've been on a 2009/leak spree. Not sure if I like this.
