Benedictum - Seasons of tragedy

Benedictum is a Heavy Metal band from San Diego, Lead by female vocalist Veronica Freeman.
This album reminds me of some of the older Heavy Metal, but there are some modern influences here. Beast in the Field is my favourite song on the album.

Say Hi To Your Mom - Ferocious Mopes

This is the third album by one of NYC/Seattle's archangels of lo-fi, Eric Elbogen. It's a slightly lusher, fuller dip into mopey 20-something ditties about love and robots than his first two historical flirtings (you'll get it later) with the music industry, Discosadness and Numbers & Mumbles. He consistently manages to keep the formula fresh, and spins his lyrics into an endearing web of silliness and sincerity. I love it, but I'm admittedly a huge SHTYM fan so you can either discredit this as biased or listen to it repeatedly and tell me I'm right.

The name of the band has since changed to Say Hi, and along with the new name came a new album, The Wishes and the Glitch. Is good.

The Deadly Syndrome - The Ortolan

Being my first contribution to the blog, I have decided to go with a local band that is sure to please. The Deadly Syndrome was established in 2006 and has grown in popularity quite quickly. The band doesn't stick to a particular sound which allowing a range of songs to choose from. You can listen to the energetic "I hope I become a Ghost" and go straight into the relaxing tunes of "Wolves in the Garden". If you enjoy this band as much as I do, definitely look into their live stuff. The band is definitely worth the look.

The Specials - Specials

The Specials is a highly influential English two tone ska band. Their sound can still be heard today through ska bands everywhere. This isn't the third wave of ska so don't expect some mad punk. The second wave is definitely a lot more listenable at any time or even when you want to rock out.

Also, Big D and the Kid's Table covered "Little Bitch" and it's a keeper.

Defiance Ohio - Share What Ya Got

So I've been really into folk punk lately as you all probably can tell. I do however regret not being able to post often due to an unbootable computer so sorry for that. Defiance Ohio is similar to the likes of Ghost Mice, Mischief Brew, and Andrew Jackson Jihad so if you like any of those, you are sure to enjoy Defiance Ohio which includes the violin, cello, banjo and upright bass interestingly enough for a punk group. Very fun to listen to, give it a try!

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Start A People

Black Moth Super Rainbow is an experimental music group from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their music has a gleeful, almost bubbly sound to it, consisting mostly of vocoded vocals, warped synths and broken drum machines. For instance, the song 'Seeds' sounds like it's been recorded, pressed onto vinyl then re-recorded with someone pressing down on the deck every 30 seconds or so. However, this only adds to the misty, organic quality of their work, which makes it very much worth a try.

The Blow - Paper Television

Apologies on behalf of all of us for the lack of updates recently. This album by this band is, well, good. It's well good. The glitchy electronic beats paired with the melodic poetry of Khaela Whatsherface's mind (not forgetting the synthesised stabs that come just as quickly as they go), mean that these two are onto a winner. Except they're not, 'cause they pretty much disbanded in the June of 2006. Either way: right click, Save Link As... and enjoy!

H-Foundation - Environments

H-Foundation is kind of like a more laid back version of Daft Punk. Their clever little combination of down tempo electronic and jazz elements creates a nice little sound. If loud music is just not called for, go to Environments. Masterfully crafted, the music here will provide very nice music to just listen to. The lyrics are sparse and often more stream-of-consciousness than anything else. A relaxing listen.

Nuclear Blast Allstars - Out of the Dark

Nuclear Blast is a label that releases various metal albums. Out of the Dark celebrates 20 years of Nuclear Blast and has many different artists involved with the songs. There is a good lineup of vocalists, of which can be found here:

Birds of Tokyo - Day One

Birds of Tokyo are from my home town in Perth, Western Australia. An alternative rock band that is a combination of members from two more well known WA bands, Karnivool and Tragic Delicate, This is their debut album, Day one. It's an album that has grown on me much in the same way Gotye's Mixed Blood album did. It's laid back, simple and good for times when loud noise gives you a headache.
