The Sarcastic Dharma Society - Sannyasa Songs (of Love)

The Sarcastic Dharma Society from Portland, Oregon is the sometimes solo-project of Mat Vuksinich in which Katherine Vuksinich adds some violin on The Light in this album. He's quickly become a favorite on the cllct collective and has informed me of his new album off Less Than Three Records. Sannyasa Songs is a quieter follow up to his previously posted album Other People's Songs(Volume 1) which took an acoustic approach to some of my favorite artists.

Smith Westerns - Smith Westerns

Sorry for not posting in such a long time, first my computer was dying, and then mediafire was telling me crazy things... oh well, everything is fine now. So here is an album that is pretty different than most of the stuff I've posted so far, and you might have heard of this band before. The Smith Westerns are super low fi, poptacular , garage rock. It's really awesome when all the... "lofi-ness" actually adds to the song instead of feeling like a cheap gimmick, and they totally pull it off in songs like "Gimme Some Time" which sounds like a simple pop song played in a bathroom and recorded on a four track. And its perfect. Oh, and they are on the same record label as Nobunny, nothing else needs to be said.

P.S. Eliot - Introverted Romance In Our Troubled Minds

Now its time for me to rep the southeast (I'm from Atlanta by the way, and proud of it for the most part...) with some lo-fi/indie/punk with female vocals from Alabama. Amazing lyrics that make you think, which is always awesome, backed by pretty jamtastic music. It's one of those albums that sounds like it was as fun for them to make as it is to listen to, with groovy basslines and jangly guitars and the like.

Thanksgiving - Cave Days And Moments

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! This festive solo title is given to Adrian Orange who is also a great musician from Portland, Oregon. This album features many genres combined which Adrian draws influence from and though it's a solo act, he collaborates with many other notable artists.

Anyways, Happy Thanksgiving! I just wanted to post this, but I'm running late to some family extravaganza or something so I'll keep this short. Post in the comments something you're thankful for(Just for fun!)

Times New Viking - Rip It Off

Times New Viking is a noisy noise rock band that you'll like if you enjoyed Lovvers or Wavves or any band with an excessive amount of "v"s in their name. I like them a lot.

Justin Vernon - Hazeltons

So Justin Vernon of Bon Iver fame has a solo album that a user requested. I was unaware of this before now but now I am. This is a request I know nothing about but I hope you do.

Tree Sounds - Naps

Tree Sounds used to go by Molly Sunday but now she plays lo-fi ukulele under a new name. Since it's just one girl, it's a pretty simple sounding album, but nonetheless it's full of a lot of ukulele strumming, claps, and fun lyrics. The "band" name is kind of fitting, because it makes me want to go outside and go fishing and climb trees.

Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls

Although only a band for a little more than a year, the Vivian Girls charms have already worked their magic on their short road to “out of nowhere” status. With their irresistable mix of 60’s girl-group sounds, punk, post-punk and shoegaze.

Right Away, Great Captain! - The Bitter End

I entirely passed by this band and labeled it as lo-fi nonsense a couple months ago and came back to it. I tend to do this a lot which is why I'm behinds on such music as this. I remember not giving Bon Iver a chance for quite some time. Lesson learned is to not be so stubborn towards music. This is the side project of Manchester Orchestra's Andy Hull and it's quite good.

On a further note, good news! Good news! I have started a new blog called "Pop Is Dead" focusing more on music reviews, band interviews, and musical culture. I will continue posting over here, but hopefully you'll check out my side-project also. I hope it becomes somewhat of a community project so feel free to email me about helping write articles. Other good news is that I am back posting on my laptop and my power chord arrived today in the mail. Everything is back on track for the most part and I hope to hear from you soon!

I am promoting the fact that I take requests to the best of my ability so if you are missing an album and I have it or can find it, I'd be delighted to help. Email me or use the comment bar.

French Quarter - Overpassing

French Quarter was a song oriented performance project by Stephen Steinbrink between the years of 2004 - 2008. I don't know much about him, but this was a request. This is not French Quarters best or most well known album by any lengths, so if you are looking for the Self Titled album search for it on the blog, I upped it earlier.

French Quarter - French Quarter

French Quarter is a lo-fi accoustic indie rocker. Not much to say about him, but he's good if you're a fan of Mt. Eerie sort of stuff.

The Sarcastic Dharma Society - Other People's Songs (Volume One)

Well, I officially have my first album of 2009. I'm glad to say that it is not a well-known artist even to hipsters and blog-scanners. The Sarcastic Dharma Society or pretty much just Matthew J. Vuksinich for the most part shot me an email asking me to listen to his work and tell me what I think. This local artist from the thriving music scene of Portland, Oregon has some real talent. Whenever I get emails from people with music to listen to especially if it's their own, I never have high expectations.

WRONG! I was simply blown away when I opened up the files he gave me which consisted of covers of some of my favorite artists. These are the likes of Andrew Jackson Jihad, Why?, The Beatles, Bright Eyes, and Mt. Eerie which I just recently got into.

The album consists of 10 songs all being covers of artists that I love from the start. Some of my other favorite tracks are "Don't Let Me Down" by The Beatles and "Shit On My Heart" by a local Portland band known as Meyercord.

If you want your band promoted, send me an email at songsfromtheroad@gmail.com because it gives me great joy. To make band promotion possible, please support this band to start off. Trust me, you won't regret listening to him.

Page France - Come, I'm A Lion

Page France were an indie folk-pop music band. Their music tends to be emotional and their songs tend to have simple melodies. Page France is sometimes compared to Sufjan Stevens for their use of uncommon instruments such as the glockenspiel and banjo.

The band broke up in 2008. Frontman Michael Nau is now focusing his full attention on Cotton Jones, another reason why 2008 sucks.

Page France is also a rarity on the internet and links get taken down in above average speed so grab this one real fast and don't hesitate until tomorrow! Our other Page France album has been down since the first day it was posted and I still haven't downloaded it because I missed the link. If you have it, I want it because I've become a large fan of these guys.

Oh, and Page France is no a Christian Rock band so don't even try to pull lyrics and say they are religious.

Jeff Magnum - Live At Jittery Joe's

Jeff Magnum, lead of Neutral Milk Hotel does a live performance of Neutral Milk Hotel songs. He's really good live, and it makes me sad that he doesn't preform like this anymore. There's not much to say besides if you like Neutral Milk Hotel or want to try something good then get some of this. I suggest getting the studio album over this, I'm not big on live albums. There's a baby crying in the first couple songs, and it pisses me off. Enjoy?

The Moldy Peaches - The Moldy Peaches

Yeah, I'll admit that this duo would never be famous if it wasn't for Juno, but that doesn't make them bad. The Moldy Peaches, consisting of Kimya Dawson and Adam Green are pretty lo-fi, but are such a good duo. What can I say? I'm a sucker for male/female voice clashing. Anyone Else But You is the cutest song ever and is really easy to play on guitar. Go ahead, impress your crush by playing "That song from Juno". Oh wow, I love and hate that movie.
