Wavelets - Athaletics

Well isn't this just lovely. At nine tracks, Athaletics is a little on the short side, but there is enough within those songs to make the album really stand out. This is twinkly emo/indie that actually pulls off both elements well, with the energy of songs like 'We're Really Jazzed About The Gig' counterbalancing the more reflective and texturally focused numbers like 'Bad Scene, Jawbreaker's Fault.' Fans of bands like Algernon Cadwallader and What Price, Wonderland? will find a lot to love here. There's nothing especially new here, but it's done so well that that doesn't matter, so give it a listen, if only to prove that there's more coming out of Gainesville than gruff pop punk.

Signals Midwest - Latitudes & Longitudes

Cleveland, OH's Signals Midwest are aband very much influenced by their location, and Latitudes & Longitudestakes more than a few cues from '90s Midwestern emo. There's the power ofBraid, the twinkly guitar lines of American Football and the quirkyness ofCap'n Jazz all on display here, but it is all bound together by a sense ofcarefully measured songwriting which really sets it apart from bands who justrehash this classic sound. Basically, this is what happens when gruff punkcollides with 90's emo, and it's brilliant, with songs like ‘Monarchs’, ‘I WasLost’ and ‘The Quiet Persuader’ being particular standouts for me. Latitudes & Longitudes basicallystrikes the perfect balance; it’s accessible without being overly poppy,emotional without being over the top, and technical without being bafflinglyso. So yeah, give it a spin, if you’re into any of the bands mentioned then you’llfind something to love here.

Stop SOPA Cencorship Bill

There is a bill in progress and might be passed towards anti-piracy. It effectively gives corporations the right to shut down any website that they want if it interferes with their sales. So, this site, would be taken down with no notice or court to fight against. I have gotten cease and desist letters, digital millennium copyright act letters and letters from the RIAA itself asking me to take things down, but this bill would take it to the next level of corporate control. If you want for your ability to fight against it then read up on the links below. Sites like Wikipedia, Google, and Craigslist are blacked out today to protest this bill. I figure that we can do our relatively small part in posting this as well.

Younger Siblings - Bald Eagles Aren't Actually Bald

I really like this 7" from Birmingham, AL's Younger Siblings. There are are a lot of different influences on display here, from 60's pop and surf rock to the more toned down elements of Bomb The Music Industry's recent album. Overall, it kind of sounds like grainy, analogue indie colliding with Bright Eyes with John Flansburgh on vocals. There is also a slightly twee undertone which reminded me of certain Dead Milkmen songs, which is always a plus point, and the whole thing is drenched in analogue distortion, reverb and even a little bit of slapback which gives a nice organic feel. My only real problem is that the first song, 'Pure Mechanical Failure' is, in my opinion, a lot stronger than the other tracks, and this disparity in quality started to get to me on the third or fourth listen. It's not that the other two songs are bad, far from it, they just aren't as good as the opener. Overall though, this is a great little 7" and I will definately be keeping an ear out for what they do in the future.

They have some folk-punk influence, not in the traditional sense, but in the sense that you would probably think they were from Gainesville, Florida if you didn't know better. I like their band name, their music ain't bad either.

We messed up big by turning down the idea of running a blog and a record label at the same time. To make it up to you guys that stuck it out and are still here, I'm running a sticker promotion. Remember all those stickers that I had a while ago? I dug 31 of these bad boys up. That means we've given out or put up 94 stickers in the time that we got them. That's a pretty awesome thing to be able to say.

What we want for the blog is for it to be a forum for our fans to tell us what they think about what we're doing and ideas for how to change for the better. If you're in a band, we'll post you. Spanish Club/Constellations - Split

Alright, so we're back and better than ever. To start, I'd like to share with you a band that never ceases to ask me my opinion on how they sound(Specifically Dominic). I initially told him that they shouldn't try to sound like they recorded through 1/8-1/4 inch adapters shoved into laptop headphone jacks so he came back and thanked me with this release. It's a refreshing Pennsylvania sounding album. I'm not talking about Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, but real heart of America, Pennsylvania. Their folk-punk roots show through into the typical twinkle-emo stuff that I hear way too much. It's also recorded by Joe from Algernon so that's pretty cool. The only downside to the album is that there are only 2 songs. It's for free download, but it will be released on CD off Littleneck Records for 3 bucks so I suggest liking them and keeping up with it if you're interested.

With the start of something new, I suppose it is best to create one of those lists to reflect on the year as a whole. The blog's revival starts a new year and the start of a record label that wants to hear what you have to say. I also didn't include either of our releases due to the obvious bias. Here is my top ten favorite releases of 2011. I'd love to hear if you guys have similar artists on the list or what happens to be on yours. Happy new years everyone!

10) Jet Set Sail - Jet Set Sail Free
Look for these guys in the future. They've been playing a lot of shows with a lot of amazing bands, yet have somehow snuck under the radar too many times.

9) We All Have Hooks For Hands - Girls Free
A twenty seven piece band from Michigan. Okay, I don't think either of those are correct. South Dakota with 9 members that will make you feel really happy with upbeat good vibes.

8) Arrah & the Ferns - Soldier Ghost EP Free
Actually a pretty long EP. They've been up on my charts for a while but started listening to them rapidly after booking the first stop on their last tour. A lot of fun to see live, a lot of fun to listen to.

7) Mallard - Mallard "of the Thick" Free
This band brought some next level depth to my listening experience. I was hooked from the first song on this album and wanted more when it was through. I can't get enough of these dudes. They are even more fun live than listening home alone in your mom's basement.

6) You'll Live - Things Would Change If You Heard This Free
Non-generic stuff you can scream along to that people you hang out with probably won't know the words to so you'll end up feeling really awkward at shows.

5) Fucked Up - David Comes to Life Buy
I've heard this band's name so many times and passed it off as "one of those bands". I finally listened to them this year upon the release of this album and I regret all those times I failed to give them a chance.

4) Dowsing - All I Could Find Was You Free
Really, they are wonderful. I don't have much to say on them on why I like them because I like everything.

3) Joyce Manor - Joyce Manor Try/Buy
Did not disappoint, reminded me why I like Joyce Manor so much.

2) Algernon Cadwallader - Parrot Flies Try/Buy
Although Fun and Some Kind of Cadwallader hold a place in my heart, the album caught on quicker than most. I finally managed to see them live this year which is embarrassing.

1) Deer Leap + The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die Are Here to Help You Try/Try/Buy
This split was flawless. I blew off everything by TWIABP until I heard the songs off this split live. I've had this on loop for the last 2 months. Rediculous.

Hey! It's been a while, but I know you all missed me because of the mass of submissions that are still filling up the mailbox. Instead of emailing you back, I've starred every demo/album received. I will be posting the best ones occasionally in order to keep up with what this blog is about: promoting music. I mean, that's why we are doing the whole record label thing, right? Important Announcement!

If you've been following any of our web 2.0 pages, you'll have noticed that we are in the process of converting from a music blog to a record label. After almost 5 years of running this blog, I've decided to take it somewhere further from the usual norm of posting music that I like.

So here's the deal. About a month ago, my friend Zach and I were talking and I brought up the fact that I wanted to start a record label. I realized that we are a great tag-team duo with skills and experience complimenting each other.

We are a no contract, no bullshit, completely DIY independent record label. We are incredibly accessible and love meeting others. If you have a question, demo, or inquiry then we'll definitely take a look.

Here's the meat of the news. We currently have two artists on our roster: Tawny Peaks and Trophywife, both with upcoming releases. You can check them out at our bandcamp below. So what's going to come of the blog after all of this? It's going to be somewhat regularly updated, hopefully somebody will be able to post frequently and take my place.

The RECORD LABEL url will be songsfromtheroad.com which for now re-directs to songsfromtheroad.blogspot.com. Our tumblr and twitter will be taken over and be used by the label only. We have a new fan page for the label which you should follow here.

I'm really excited how this is all turning out. There will be more updates soon, but for the most part, our new fan page will be the most of our updates until we can get a main page up.

Andrew Bird Celebrates Brooklyn

It's seven pm in Prospect Park, Brooklyn and there's at least a mile-long line winding its way around a fenced off concert area. People are scattered everywhere on multicolored blankets having picnics while waiting for the show to start. Who's drawing all this attention? Why are people waiting in an absurd line to maybe squeeze into the fenced off area with the stage & booze stands? Andrew Bird is kicking off the start of the Celebrate Brooklyn free concert series in the park. If you're already a fan of this ridiculously talented Chicago-born and bred artist then there's no need for explanation as to why the line is so disgustingly long.

   Bird, classically trained in the suzuki method, is a fabulous multi-instrumentalist and lyricist who adds quirky twists of glockenspiel, guitar and whistling to create unforgettably beautiful songs.
   It isn't until half past eight that Bird comes on stage and silence sweeps over the audience as attention is focused on the thin man with the violin center stage. He begins to play a few notes of "Why" and the bar was set high for the rest of the night. Every song Bird played either by himself or with his band "Bowl of Fire" was absolutely spell-bindingly brilliant. The song line-up for the night began with "Why" and was followed throughout the two hours with "Imitosis," "Plasticities," "Darkmatter," "Scythian Empires," "Tables and Chairs," "Effigy," "A Nervous Tic Motion of The Head To The Left" with many other tracks spanning all ten of his albums. Even though it was absolutely incredible experiencing him play live all the songs I've loved, it was a treat when he revealed he was going to perform a NEW SONG from his unreleased new album! The song is called "Give It Away" and it has a pop-ish, fun and light-hearted feel to it. Like most of Bird's songs, the lyrics hold real weight and end up giving the listener questions to ponder. Some may not like that quality of his music then some love it. If you are of the former group, then Andrew Bird may not be for you.
   Overall, this concert kickoff for the Celebrate Brooklyn series couldn't have gone any better. Andrew Bird put on a beautifully orchestrated, colorful and vivacious show. To check his new song "Give It Away" click on the link below. Enjoy!

William Bonney - Kickstarter/Summer Tour

William Bonney has a kickstarter ending in 7 days to support their summer tour. It has 165 dollars left which is 23 dollars a day on average. These guys are great guys and are in a great band. Heather Maloney: A North East Gem

On the brightly lit stage of The Living Room (154 Ludlow Street NYC) surrounded by a broad range of instruments Heather Maloney begins to sing the melodiously playful and light-hearted song “Time and Pocket Change.” The lyrics bring about the nostalgia of childhood and memories of the simple things that made us happy that we perhaps forgot like making the most magnificent sandcastles and not worrying about their existence beyond completion. But it’s not only the fun lyrics or her guitar playing that captivates the audience, it’s also her unbelievably beautiful, smooth voice that plays with range in “Time and Pocket Change” yet is raw, passionate and soulful in “No Shortcuts.” Maloney’s voice is much like that of singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell. Her recently released sophomore album titled “Time and Pocket Change” is a great collection of indie-rock songs. Martin Luther King - Demo

This two track demo, from Connecticut's MLK is raw, effecting and brilliantly put together. And that is why it is my pick of the week. It has a lot in common with Kinsella bands while taking a harder edge, it also has the super 90s vocals-low-in-the-mix thing that I've loved for oh-so long. The songs have this frenetic urgency like they are somehow competing with themselves to fit as much emotion in as short a time as possible. And it works. Instantly arresting, my only complaint is that there isn't more.

Shat Shorts - Seersucker and Sundresses

Hailing from Washington DC, Shat Shorts make hardcore with a experimental and electronic edge. Including members of the incredible Monument, with an impressive list of ex-bands such as Dawn Treader, Mob Attack, Hobis and loads more! Taking their cues from bands like Pissed Jeans (the clue's in the name), it's chaotic to the Nth degree with just enough discipline to stop them from climbing through your speakers and clubbing you to death with their instruments. I have no idea what the lyrics are, but they are sure are shouted with passion and an implied honesty. I like that. This six track release contains five slices of nutty hardcore with a side of dubstep remix. Not one for the dirty noise of dubstep, I didn't like that so much. But it sounds in line with all the other dubstep that I have heard so chances are that Shat Shorts are getting it right.

Suns - Three Songs

Suns are three guys from Connecticut who make honest punk flavoured indie jams. With a six track EP on the way, Three Songs is a taster of what's to come. And it's yummy too. The music is a bit more technical than it sounds, the sound is sparse and spacey but dynamic with it. My favourite track is Fuck Me While I'm Down, but all three are excellent pieces of indie rock joy. This will easily tide you over until the EP hits, so get it.

I still think the singer's voice is similar to Say Anything, even if Jesse disagrees!

Topshelf Records is pleased to announce that they have started taking pre orders for a benefit compilation to support the Dubey family. For those unaware, one of the label's good friends (and a good friend to many other people), member of Swear Jar, and long time music enthusiast Mitch Dubey was tragically murdered in his New Haven, CT home in March of this year.

The compilation will feature live tracks recorded during My Heart To Joy’s final gig on May 14, 2011 from The Book Slave, Slingshot Dakota, Into It. Over It., Algernon Cadwallader, Snowing, Hostage Calm, Jettison and My Heart To Joy’s final set. Topshelf Records has planned a one time pressing of 500 12 inch records with all proceeds going to the Dubey family. For you vinyl junkies, the 500 records will be split between 125 Black, 125 Yellow, 125 Purple, and 125 Light Pink.

The album art was done by Ben Sears and each record will include a limited edition print by Juan Gabe (Comadre), Derrick Shanholtzer (The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die), Ryan Nelson (My Heart To Joy), Adam Vass (La Dispute), Kevin Duquette (Topshelf Records) & Ben Sears (Black God). Watchword consists of six members all around fourteen years of age. They are very talented musicians, especially for their age. The band comes out of the Montclair, NJ music scene which isn't very big so most of it sounds kind of the same. It's scramzy and teenage angsty. Definitely check out their demo which was recorded in about a day, but sounds pretty good as is.

I went through my email and found this gem in my inbox. I seem to have had it for around two months now, but it slipped under the radar(along with a lot of other stuff). It also seems that I got a rejection letter for Bonnaroo press passes. Anyways, I saw these dudes at Dex's house along with The World is A Beautiful Place and other rad bands. They came all the way from Florida and had toured Japan before that. They had this confidential folder that they handed me after I bought some buttons. Inside was a CD and some documents which turned out was the most awesome compilation ever. I'll probably post that sometime soon, but this song is going to be on their album UNKNOWN LANDS to be released June 29th. It's kinda screamo-y but is more atmospheric and dense.

Weird Korea - No Art//No Trade

Weird Korea are a weird band that's not from Korea. They are garage punk in the sense that they purposely lo-fi'd their noise on purpose in order to sound good. Our friends from Science Fair are releasing a split with Captain of Compliments with friends from Kat Kat Records. They have 2 songs each Science Fair starting with a Trunks & Tales cover of The Importance Of Not Being Too Earnest before going into a new song with lyrics like "Listening to my the new Hightide Hotel, when did my favorite bands start selling pre-sale tickets" while they, themselves show their Hightide Hotel influences in this split. The cover was definitely a surprise throw-back to a song I haven't listened to in a while. I believe the lyrics of Previously on LOST is also referring to the pre-sale of Street Smart Cyclist while Hightide released their newest album in the weeks around then. Captain of Compliments definitely have to be from New Jersey which I can only guess because they seem to pull their influence deep within the swamps of Taking Back Sunday, Crucial Dudes, and Gaslight Anthem. They were a surprise, especially since I was drawn to this split through Science Fair.

Park Jefferson - Discography

Park Jefferson is the aftermath of Nick Stutsman(ex Merchant Ships) trying to start a band called Cougar Season which never got legs. Thankfully, Park Jefferson has survived to 3 releases so far including an ep, an acoustic ep, and a split with Bicycle Sunday. They sound more like Midwest Pen Pals than Merchant Ships with Nick singing instead of Jack. I sort of feel an east coast sound as well. I don't know why this wasn't up earlier, but I keep not posting my friend's stuff which should be the obvious first choice.

35 Conferrete - Day 2

Thursday was our first day of us covering the 35 Conferette here in Denton, TX. Words cannot even begin to describe how amazing it was. We saw 02D2, Mondo Drag, White Arrows, Analogue Rebellion, Achtone!, and Dr. Dog. We even rounded the evening out with the always fun Fishboy. We interviewed 3 members of Achtone!, and even Eric Michener(Fishboy himself).

The afternoon started at 4:30 when R2B2 took the stage. They are an experimental/folk/soul 2 piece from Denton. The singer, Ryan Becker, also plays guitar while Grady Sandlin is the man behind the drums. They sounded great during instrumental parts. It felt like two dudes just jamming and making great music. Ryan's unique vocal style really adds to the overall experience, and when he's just rocking out on guitar its obvious that he loves what he does. Goon, one of the songs from their new album, was one of my favorites. It uses their classic vocals paired with Grady's drumming style to create something that's really unique and sounds great.

After R2B2, we saw Mondo Drag from Davenport Iowa. Their genre is "Psychedlic Space Rock". They had radical keyboard effects going on, the whole band was just jamming as hard as possible at times. It sounded like 80's post rock but with an indie vibe to it. It rocked, but not in an overwhelming way. It worked out really well, and I look forward to seeing them when they come into town again.

White Arrows came next, and they were pretty awesome too. The lead singer was fun and had a great vibe going on with the crowd. Random band members played a communal drum. It was very creative and helped make the performance feel one of a kind. The keyboardist used a laptop for added sound effects, and it was pretty cool to see the use of technology in music. Imagine if the Beach Boys were to form today, and had a electronic sound. That's kind of what I'd describe it as. The vocals were pretty cool with an eclectic drummer. Everything combined to create one hell of a great show!

Analogue Rebillion was awesome too. Its the product of Daniel Hunter, from Aledo, Texas who calls its genre "Stadium Lo-Fi". It's probably the best way to describe the sound - Stadium rock, but with a lo-fi feel - I'd say. Daniel was having a great time on stage with his guitar. He danced around stage and just created an awesome feel for everything. The drummer was really getting into them music as well. Like White Arrows, Analogue Rebellion used a ton of technology in their music - even with an Imac on stage. Some of the songs felt really powerful, while others were incredibly relaxing.

Following Analogue Rebellion, we went to Achtone!'s show on the square. Their music is self described by their bassist, Hunter as "Psychedlic Space Rock". Think of Pink Floyd, but in 2011 and made in Denton. There you go! It was pretty cool, and they put on a great show. Easily one of my favorite acts of the evening. We actually did an interview with the band afterward at The Hydrant so look forward to reading more about this band.

After that was the main attraction: Dr.Dog. They were awesome, which is what you'd expect. It was just getting dark as they went on, so the lighting and effects were amazing. They rocked and the crowd was insane! Everyone enjoyed it, and their keyboards, vocals, and guitars all worked really well to create their blues-ish sound that most know.

After the Dr.Dog show, we spent some time talking to Eric Mitchener before his show. He was a really nice guy and told us tons of stuff about Fishboy's past, present, and future. We're still polishing up that interview too, but look forward to it in the next day or so.

Then we ate at Geo's Pizza and drank red bull before going to Fishboy's show.(Interlude)

Fishboy rocked so hard. Fishboy is the musical vision of Eric Mitchener and last night their bassist and drummer there to create the full band. He played Taqueria girl, Aaron The Astronaut, and a ton of songs from old albums. He jumped around on stage, the bassist grooved around, and the drummer drummed his heart out, and the whole crowd was dancing and head bobbing along with the music. It was extremely amazing! They really show what good music should be. Fun, whimsical, a little silly, and just genuinely entertaining. Dan's silver leaf provided a really intimate atmosphere and Fishboy really shined.

I'm totally exhausted from last night's craziness, and we probably won't be covering much(or anything) Saturday, but look forward to Sunday's events. Portugal the man, !!!, and some other awesome bands will be playing!

35 Conferette - COVERAGE

Well, dudes and dudettes. Its time. Starting today, our coverage the 35 Conferete has begun. If you don't know what it is, it's an amazing music festival held in downtown Denton, TX. Think of it as a more laid back little brother to SXSW. He doesn't snort coke and play the electric guitar, but man does he love a nice joint and playing the cello.

There are a ton of awesome bands and artists performing. Fishboy, !!!, Portugal The Man, RTB2, Dr.Dog, Westboro Butchers, the list just goes on and even includes headliner Big Boi from Outkast. Seriously, check it out here. Its the first time Songs From The Road is covering anything like this, and we hope to be able to bring you more in the future. Expect more festival coverage over the summer.

I'll be writing a mini review about each concert I attend, and doing an overall review at the end of each day. We also have a photographer wandering about taking pictures, so look forward to those too. Oh, and I'm going to try to interview some bands and people. We will be having our first EXCLUSIVE interviews and hopefully some big names will want to talk to us.

The Far Away Boys - Kyleigh's Flaw

The Far Away Boys are a pop-punk band from Central Jersey with a very 90s sound. It kind of sounds like 10th grade to me, but not mainstream. It's good standard pop-punk that sounds like New Jersey complete with sing-alongs and "na na na na nas". This is their debut EP Kyleigh's Flaw. I like the name because, being from New Jersey, I know Kyleigh's Law was dumb.

Fishboy - Classic Creeps

Fishboy, a band set out of the incredible up and coming music scene of Denton, TX, is now taking pre-orders for their new album Classic Creeps. It fails to disappoint in the sense that Fishboy continues their tradition of every album they release being twice as awesome as it's predecessor. The album follows the storybook rock opera format similar to Albatross: How We Failed to Save the Lone Star State with the Power of Rock and Roll, but instead of focusing on the story, it focuses on the characters involved. "It's ten epic pop songs about ten characters who's lives are connected by a dense web of awesome." These "classic creeps" have a story told by a comic by Eric Michener(Eric Fishboy). The concept is that you can listen to the album while following along with the comic. In a sense, Classic Creeps is a musical comic book full of bubble letters, puffy clouds, and fun twee pop with a rock & roll indie approach. Perhaps it's better classified as a twee pop-erah. If Texas wasn't saved through roll & roll from Albatross, I think this one will help. steer things back on track.

The Taxpayers - To Risk So Much For One Damn Meal

I didn't want to destroy the integrity of this email that I received from The Taxpayers because they definitely described the album better than I could have ever. Despite the awful format of the email and highly overused underlines, bolds, and punctuation, the album/band is incredibly awesome. They are goofballs, but they can make really good music so it's alright with me. Definitely check it out! It's on Quote Unquote Records so you know its good and you know it's free.

How are you on this splendid February day??? I am writing to you on behalf of my band The Taxpayers (a DIY punk band from Portland, OR) from inside a storage contained in Florida! We moved here for the winter as snow birds and live in our practice space/storage container deemed "The Pauly Shore". It's a modest place. We also bring other news! We recorded our third and newest full-length album and I am submitting it to you for your listening enjoyment (or disgust)! It is titled: To Risk So Much For One Damn Meal. I remember y'all posted our last album up and I wanted to pass this along to you! Thanks for all the kind words last time!!!! Thanks a million.

This sucker took nearly a year to complete, and was recorded everywhere from Minneapolis to Portland, in houses, warehouses, parks, and even in the preschool classroom where Rob Taxpayer teaches (elementary school pianos have a special sound, ya know?). It's got a bunch of different sounds going on, what the Free Music Archive calls, “a Beck-like license to strip two vast histories of sound down to their barest essentials, and mix them back together into super-catchy, genre-bending anthems about failed revolutions and lives well wasted”. This album's got bluegrass, ragtime, swing, 80's hardcore, blues, and a little Springsteen-esque nostalgia.

The best part is this, in my opinion. To Risk So Much for One Damn Meal is getting released in 4 different formats. The super awesome legendary punk label Plan-It-X Records (home of Japanther, Kimya Dawson, Andrew Jackson Jihad, This Bike is a Pipe Bomb, and a hell of a lot more) is releasing it on vinyl and CD, Tiger Force Ultra is releasing it on cassette tape, and of course, Quote Unquote Records (Bomb the Music Industry!) is releasing it for free/donations. Our label, Useless State, is releasing it as a ZINE. Novelist/zinester/painter Keith Rosson has designed the zine, and it includes essays, science experiments, song explanations, and more, and the last page contains a sleeve for the CD.

If you're wondering what I've been up to besides not updating here, I've been focusing almost all of my attention to either this zine, schoolwork, or the club that I run here on campus. Good news: it's finally done and it looks fantastic.

It includes submissions from readers like you, friends of mine, people on campus, and various other places. It is being released on Wednesday on campus, but it is already for sale online. I'm excited to say that it has over 60 pages of content of various drawings, music reviews, photos, poems, and more.

Top Albums of 2010

This year's been overall pretty good when it comes to albums released. Unlike last year, I actually had to weed some out and had somewhat of a hard time making decisions. It seems that there were a lot of releases in the past month which made this year awesome. Along with the string of shows Christmas week, I'd say that it would be easy to make a top 10 releases/shows of the month. Instead, I decided to extend it to the year.

10. Nana Grizol - Ruth

Of course anything by Nana Grizol would have made the list. Though it wasn't as good as Love It Love It, it was by no means a bad album. In fact, it was a very good album. It was good enough to make number 10 on the list, that is.

9. 1994!- FCKRHED

These Lancaster natives snuck into the number 9 spot on my list while receiving heavy play shortly after purchasing their tee shirt. They would probably be higher on the list if I heard about them sooner. I'm pretty sure it's they are a two-piece, but I know I'm sure that they are pretty rad.

8. We Were Skeletons - We Were Skeletons

Also from Lancaster, this band has more than two people in it. They play a lot of mathy stuff that's really loud and screamy. There's none of that noodly nonsense, just straight up farm-land angst.

7. The Tallest Man On Earth - The Wild Hunt

I am constantly blown away by The Tallest Man On Earth, and this album left nothing towards disappointment. Getting back to my folk roots, this album is perfect for fall and winter and I can't get enough of it ever.

6. You Blew It! - The Past In Present

There was a time shortly after it came out when I would listen to nothing but this album. I don't even know what it is, but I really like it a lot. It's for name your own price on bandcamp.

5. Mane Horse - What Do You Mean We're Just Friends?

This band is criminally underrated and is from Fresco, California both of which kill me. One because they deserve to get more popular, and two because I'll never see them live because they aren't big enough to tour the east coast yet. I can't get enough of these dudes since their demos came out and their EP was even better. It's for free and we wrote about them a while back.

4. Midi & the Modern Dance - Make It Easy On Yourself

Howdy, Connecticut. This group has some serious potential to be the biggest thing on the planet. They have a lot of sounds going on in this album and are seriously nice people. It's a win/win combo that can get them places. This album is phenomenal and for name your own price on bandcamp.

3. Merchant Ships - For Cameron/Shipsography

Okay, I really like Merchant Ships. I'm not going to lie, I was going through some serious stuff the day For Cameron came out and I cried while listening to it. It helped me feel a lot better and although it's not my favorite musically, it really is an emotional album. Shipsography also came out this year so I can also add that to the list. You can get that here.

2. The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die - Formlessness

Flawless. A good album to me is something that plays straight through effortlessly. Not only does this release do that, but is a phenomenal listen. I believe I had over 20 listens on each track the day it came out. Great release, even better live. You can get it free here because they are out of free downloads on bandcamp.

Yes, Snowing took the #1 spot on the list. Usually I get bored of albums after a couple weeks, but they never got old. In fact, I listened to it more and more as the year went on. Better yet, it's free on CYLS!

The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die

Take up the entire flier, why don't you? I don't mind. These Connecticut guys were absolutely amazing live, including everything from Josh Is Dead which I haven't gotten around to listening to recorded yet. Despite not being played straight through, everything from Formlessness was flawless. I usually play the album from beginning to end and was hoping they would do so. Regardless, they are a lot of fun and I highly recommend supporting them as they are on tour right now.

Ape Up!

I never really got into this band, but found myself getting into them for some reason. Well, the reason is probably because they are easy to sing along to even when you don't know the words. If not, they are just straight up good fun to see because everyone else is having a good time. Good vibes, man.

Slingshot Dakota

I saw this two-piece around two years ago at Albright College. I didn't know who they were at the time, but I've watched them grow to have a huge following. They sing heartfelt lyrics about traveling and home and friends and stuff. They brought a couple new songs to the stage and Carly brought out an acoustic guitar for the last song which was reminiscent of when that guy from Bridge & Tunnel was in their band for their first album. They are writing a third album where Carly plays guitar and rocks harder than usual, I presume. They had a charity where they auctioned off tickets and raised 75 dollars for a charity that is yet to be decided and Tom gave a bunch of speeches to bring awareness to some issues in the scene. Overall, they are wonderful people and write wonderful music.

Algernon Cadwallader

Everybody knows this ridiculously named band by now. I don't have to tell anybody that's reading this how awesome they are recorded or live. This was actually my first time seeing them live which was kind of my guilty secret for a while. The drummer of Boyfriends(I think? Somebody correct me, I'm wrong) took over for some songs off their demo. They played Look Down which was really awesome to hear and Shirt which is what I hear is the first time they played that live ever. Everybody in the band was rocking really sweet beards and I was super excited about it. They are going on a west coast tour from the 4th-16th on these dates so check them out. They will also be on KPSU on the 13th which is gonna be awesome!

Street Smart Cyclist

I don't know what to say. I guess I could say that I am speechless. That would be a start. It was so amazing to see them live. Everybody was freaking out more than I've ever seen anybody freak out for anything. The band had very little room to work with, but they entirely worked with it. I think I even saw John Galm cry a little during Kiss Kitty. Then again, I think a lot of the crowd was half in tears, the set was beautiful. They played their discography. I have nothing else to say. My glasses broke during the first 5 seconds of the first song, indicating how crazy everything was.

Boyfriends

I have barely heard anything by them, but they were pretty awesome. I really wish I was more prepared for day 2 of the reunion. Seriously, these guys rule.

Midi & The Modern Dance

I seriously love these guys more than anything ever. They are another Connecticut band(The entire state came, for real) They sound like a Belle & Sebastian cover band that listens to Snowing and Algernon. Make It Easy On Yourself is available for "Name your price" so I highly recommend checking it out. They are also on tour and I was about to go to Connecticut just to see them again. Do yourself a favor and do what I didn't do. This was my second time seeing these young brutes and it won't be my last.

My Heart To Joy

I'm not gonna lie. I didn't do my homework before I came to this show and only listened to Seasons In Verse like twice a while ago. Although it was good, I don't know why I didn't get into it. This is pretty much The Words Is and... but with a slightly different line-up.

Stay Ahead Of The Weather

I wasn't wearing my glasses for this entire show so I just spent this entire set thinking I was watching Castevet. Not even joking, I even was screaming Castevet lyrics for a while because I don't know them that well either.

Castevet

Topshelf Records Chicago emo-punks. Really good, really fun. They have Bill Murray and Michael Jordan tee shirts(I got the Bill Murray one). They recently changed their name to CSTVT after legal issues with a band with the same name from New York. The other band sucks by the way. It's experimental metal.

Street Smart Cyclist

Second verse, same as the first. It was the same show but even more intense. I spent the entire set on the stage and came off it with cuts and bruises all up my leg from being slammed into the stage. I attempted crowd-surfing but people were too busy pushing each other and falling over to hold on to me. Snowing is now on tour so go to their shows and tell you how much fun you had at Street Smart or how angry you are that you missed it.

In Total:

The first day, I almost crashed into several cars due to snow, parked in an abandoned billards lot, and broke my glasses during Street Smart's set. I Couldn't drive home, so Nick drove my car all the way to New Jersey so that I was blind in the back seat freaking out because the roads were icy and I don't let anybody drive my car. The 2 days were full of friendship and almost deaths. But in total, despite it probably being a bad idea, it was certainty an adventure that was well needed. I didn't stay all the days that I wanted to, didn't get any interviews(despite spending the night with Nick Stutsman of Park Jefferson), and am still sore. I'd totally do this again, though.

Merry Christmas(Eve) - Update!

First of all, merry Christmas and happy New Years to everybody! I haven't been posting much due to finals week, then my laptop broke, and assorts of other excuses I can come up with. As my last couple posts have indicated, I am going to be heading back to PA for a week to cover a string of shows. I'm going armed with a tape recorder, notebook, I Found This Song In The Road pens, and stickers. I happen to be staying at Raf from We Were Skeleton's and Omeed from Midi & The Modern Dance's house's so I'm hoping to catch some interviews if not from more.

The New Year is going to bring a lot of exciting things. The one that I'm the most excited for is a rebirth to this blog with a new spin on it. I plan on doing more interviews as often as possible, more mix cds, and more legit reviews.

There is a list of over 50 artists in my inbox that want to be published, some that are more than a year old now. I'm going attempt to decrease that number and post directly from there.

Expect more great things to come out of this blog. I've become extremely into tumblr so check ours out because I reblog a lot of really cool stuff that I don't post here. Also, I hope to have some contests in the future based off of it to win some neato stuff.

What people haven't known for a year is that I own songsfromtheroad.com which I keep forgetting to renew. So we DO have a domain which means that we are as real as ever.

What I'm trying to say is: We've gone legit before by not posting anything illegal for a while, but I want to go full out legit and do real articles, real interviews, and real community. I'm even working on a zine.

Anyways, I'm rambling and I hope people get as excited as I am about what's about to come. Expect a final post with my top 10 albums of the year!

Street Smart Cyclist Reunion Show

Rumors have been going around for months about a possible reunion of the now Snowing band Street Smart Cyclist. It all started when the facebook fan page posted about a possible Boston reunion. It has finally been confirmed to be at St. Burners in Bethlehem, PA complete with a facebook event by John Galm himself. It seems to be the day after Christmas(December 26th) which is a great present to the Lehigh Valley music scene.

...SSC was asked to play a reunion show, and we all agreed to do it. Why? I think because we're friends and it's been awhile since the five of us have gotten to see each other, bro down, hang out, drink some beers (side note: when this show happens, Nate will be 21. when he joined cyclist, he was 16!), and just generally enjoy each others company. there is nothing more beautiful and important and wonderful about life than friendship. don't you agree? anyway, that show we were supposed to play fizzled out, I guess, so we decided to play a show in bethlehem, where we all more or less grew up, where the band formed, and where our friendships blossomed. this is a ONCE AND DONE DEAL. it's our chance to disappoint everyone when they realize we really did only have seven (or eight?) songs.

SLINGSHOT DAKOTA
cyclist played so often with slingshot dakota that it would be a crime to not have them on this show. they are two extraordinary people and we all love the love they create. tom p. broke my heart at our last show, and if he attempts to do that again, he'll leave without thumbs.

ALGERNON CADWALLADER
the first show that cyclist played with algernon, they played first to a half empty room, I had an asthma attack, and peter got scolded for using all of the houses toilet paper to make a mummy costume. pretty good night, overall.

APE UP!
nick lives in boston now. he used to live in philadelphia. he used to play drums in algernon. that's where we met nick. we love nick. he's a great person. I'm pretty sure he helped peter make that mummy costume. he asked cyclist to play in boston and told me that if we played a show in bethlehem to let ape up play. well, there you have it.

this band is incredible. the "formlessness" ep may be my favorite release this year. it's too gorgeous to describe. my good friend greg horbal is now in this band. I love him. I hope everyone is as excited as I am to see this band.

Low Places - Violent Hunger

Low Places (members of CTL and Duke Nukem Forever). They just recorded at Earth Capital in LA with Alex Estrada (Nails, Touche Amore, Creatures) and plan on putting this release out on cassette soon. I recommend this for fans of Cursed and Mind Eraser. They kind of remind me of early hardcore with a modern punk/scramz approach.

They just played their first show last Thursday at Burners and are quickly picking up internet hype despite just releasing their first demo. They provide angry ex-boyfriend music including lyrics like, "and on every shooting star, I wish your life a living hell" in ...And The High Horse You Rode In On combined with Clerks samples in A Series Of Down Endings. Listen to them if you enjoyed christopherwalken's demo, are a fan of Snowing, Hightide Hotel, or are looking for something new to the scene. Three out of five of their songs are re-recorded/renamed christopherwalken songs, but they sound so much more rad through Science Fair. Definitely check them out.

christopherwalken, a band from Philadelphia, PA, via the Lehigh Valley. sounding in the vein of Snowing or Hightide Hotel, has given us what was going to be their first studio EP The album, which originally intended to have 6 songs, got cut short due to a hot headed meltdown between memebers. This 3 song "Rough Mix" Ep is all that remained. Though, short-lived, they managed to tour PA and Delaware and playwith bands like Hightide Hotel, Everyone, Everywhere, Joint Chiefs of Math and Spraynard. Though they have broken up, they are pretty much all in a new band called Science Fair which will be releasing 5 songs in August. Keep a lookout for more from them!

Frenso, California which I know nothing about but keep hearing about is the the home of Mane Horse, an up and coming indie band with an emo feel. They sound like Cap Santé!, they are kinda twinkly, kinda screamy, kinda sing-alongish, kinda group vocalized. They have an upbeat, simple, fun attitude. They only have 2 songs out now, but I have word they are finishing their EP by the end of the month. I expect them to explode on the scene especially playing with seasoned bands like My Heart To Joy and Slingshot Dakota.

The Parlour Suite - Welcome to the Garden Party

If you haven't listened to The Parlour Suite, a band originally out of Minneapolis fronted by husband and wife team Joel & Inga Roberts, you don't know what you're missing. Thankfully, their underlooked EP Welcome to the Garden Party is being released on CD this Friday, providing the perfect opportunity to step into their tastefully appointed parlour and enjoy their refreshing take on the oft trampled vintage pop soundscape.

Like most good acts, it's hard to pin them to any particular genre or place the label of a movement or style on there sound. If you were to go in blind you might find yourself wondering if you were listening to a song by some unfairly forgotten band from the 60s, or if you had stumbled upon the bleeding edge of yet another splinter genre poised to blow up the scene and spawn countless empty imitations. Anyone foolish enough to attempt that will find the task impossible however, because a large part of what gives The Parlour Suite their delightfully soulful mellowness in Welcome to the Garden Party is their readily apparent dedication to a truly authentic approach to a vintage sound. According to their self-description the sound of the album was heavily influenced by the compression produced by their analog recording techniques, and it is a testament to the effectiveness of this approach that it took that revelation for me to realize that is what the second half of their winning combination had been.

The first half, of course, is the genuine talent on display at all levels. Nothing in any track stands out as merely competent, every aspect, from the authentic analog organs and subtle guitar use, displays both an extreme professionalism as well as a decidedly playful nostalgic style that wears it's influences on it's sleeves.

The titular track Welcome to the Garden Party and The Goldenhand appear to be the stand out tracks in popular opinion, and I am inclined to wholeheartedly agree. Garden Party is soulful piece which lyrics contain some heartfelt and interesting poetical imagery that you won't notice on the first listen because of how god damn good it sounds. The Goldenhand is on the opposite end of the emotional spectrum contained in the album, a peppy and upbeat love song sung by Inga Roberts, who performs most of the vocal duties on the album. This song wouldn't sound out of place coming out of a transistor radio or an iPod touch.

When Welcome to the Garden Party isn't radiating off almost visible waves of nostalgia it is astounding you with it's innovation. Is it a freshly discovered vintage track you're listening to or a song so fresh it could pass for vintage? The Parlour Suite extends to you a second invitation to their garden party to find out for yourself. I think you should go, you'll like it there.

Recession Music sounds like a mix between Jay-Z with the flow of Outkast. Their entire discography is available for free off bandcamp for download and streaming. I rarely see good free hip-hop/rap so give it a listen at least.

Defiance, Ohio's album Midwestern Minutes(Which leaked a while ago, I know) was officially released for a free legal leak from their website today. The album follows The Fear, The Fear, The Fear and is probably one of my favorite so far. I am excited that they did a studio version of "Hairpool" in which a live version was featured If You Make It. Other great tracks are re-dos of tracks off Songs for the Icarus Project like "Cigarettes" and "You Are Loved". Defiance, Ohio is one of my favorite bands and I am excited to hear they are continuing their work on creative commons.

Marina V isn't my normal genre of music, which gave me a challenge when I started the first track. The album reminds me very much of the work of Tori Amos and Delta with her piano ballads and vibrant vibrato. I thought that 90's adult alternative was dead long ago, but it certainly still has a following and still a field to flourish in for upcoming artists. As is the case for Marina V. What stands out the most to me is her powerful voice and her ability to carry the spirit of the song completely on her vocals.

The result is nothing short of brilliant, and a very fitting tribute.

We Were Skeletons after being signed to Topshelf Records is set to drop another album June 29^th which will be self-titled. Yet again, it took me forever to get through the first track and just ended up listening to that for a couple hours and then getting distracted. I’m sorry for being blown away and taking so long to listen to the rest of it.

Anyways, the opener “Drawn from the Houses I've Burnt” blew me away at the progression of them as a band since their album Summers. First of all, quality-wise the recording is much better. Material-wise they maintain their yelpy screamo pogoing in a chaotic mesh of vocals. I did notice that they re-recorded “Well, I did Spend a Year in College” off the 75:24 compilation which is kinda cool because it’s one of the best songs on that compilation.

It’s amazing how much this band has developed in such a short period of time of being signed. I saw them live at Albright College in which they were great but almost nobody showed up to that show despite so many great bands. Still, I bought Summers which although getting stuck in the CD player of my car and having to fish out, I was blown away by. Oh by the way, Summer is available for free so look for the link on the bottom.

I was really excited for the record release show until I realized that I was working on that day. I highly recommend going not only because it’s at Seniorita Burrita, but because they are all great people and it’s guaranteed that you’ll have a blast at their show. It also helps that Snowing, Merchant Ships, Boys & Sex, мища and Our Parents Forgot Us are playing. Just saying, Merchant Ships doesn’t tour the east coast often. Go see them.

Allie Millstein - Human Nature

This is a cd by Hartford, Connecticut native Allie Millstein. She sings acoustic indie folk music. She has very unique vocal and guitar melodies, and they sound like an angel has descended from heaven just to sing us a song.

This EP opens up with the song "Human Nature" that just makes you grin. You just start listening to it and your mouth just slowly forms a smile. Its amazingly catchy, and I keep finding myself taping out the beat. The next song, "Mend My Heart", sounds like something from the Juno soundtrack. Its pretty chill and upbeat plus its got some cool lyrics along with its rhythmic vibe.

After "Mend my Heart" come "Our Love Is Underground". Its similar to Human Nature in that you keep involuntarily tapping out the beat. Really catchy stuff. The last song, "Skeletons", has a more mournful vibe to it but remains beautiful.

This is just a great CD, and you really should give it a listen. Allie Millstein sounds amazing, and if you like acoustic folk things then you'll love this. The Summer Obsession - Believe Nothing Explore Everything

The Summer Obsession is a pop-punk band from Jacksonville Beach, FL. They have a drummer from Good Charlotte, and a singer/guitarist from Against All Authority. Their other dude is Luke Walker(Sorry but I don't know what band you're from).

This album sounds like a mix of Yellowcard, Blink-182, (+44), The Offspring's Rise and Fall Rage and Grace, and it even manages to sound like Sublime at some points. So if you like any of these bands then go ahead and give this a listen. I can try think of an indie band they sound like, maybe October Fall?

The first two tracks of Believe Nothing Explore Everything seem to lead us up to something, but then the rest of the album sort of lets us down. It made me feel like The Summer Obsession is still trying to figure out what they are. That's cool, and its not like the album sucks or anything. Its just not the kind of thing I can chill with.

Oh, and the lyrics were pretty fun. Think about how Blink-182 used sex in "Dude Ranch". Replace sex with weed and you can get an idea of how the songs go. Kind of playfully innocent, but in an awkward way. According to a close friend it felt "weird as shit to hear someone sing about getting high and naked when paired with that rhythm". Your mileage may vary.

In it's entirety, it's a decent album from a good pop-punk band. Its not the best, and not the worst. If you want something to put on in the background while you play video games with friends then this is what you're looking for. If you want something deep that you can spend hours listening to over and over, move on.

Pirouette - Thinking In Subtitles

Under the name Pirouette, Scotty Leitch writes noodly emo jams out of the Philadelphia music scene with his three best friends. Think Lehigh Valley influences like Snowing and Street Smart Cyclist meets Philly-based Hightide Hotel. Thinking in Subtitles, Pirouette’s fourth album, seems to leave behind their more restrained sound even while dropping off a second female vocalist. Pirouette brings up emotions of good times, fun times, and summer times. There is little time wasted by long intros and intricate progressions like many other bands of this nature. Expect honest and straight to the point music that will brighten your day. “Charmeleons Ghost Skip” jumps in strong as the first track while the album never loses momentum, even for “Revive” which mid-album changes the pace entirely to a slower, more artsy approach to emo. “Kiss and Tell” is themed of romance defined by the lyric “and there’s no place I’d rather be than glued to you”. Pirouette doesn’t try to deviate from the scene or be deep and witty at all, but have somehow created something unique and exciting. They have a couple demos that are included so it comes off moderately amateur, but all of their albums are given away for free so there is little to complain about.

Seth Cudney presents: Wellspring

For the past five years, I have been a devoted follower of my good friend Seth Cudney's music. He has tackled a variety of genres and sounds, each managing to outdo the last, and his most recent project is no exception. This is without a doubt, one best records I have heard in a long, long time. It is honest, it is unique and I'm able to listen to it hundred times over without getting the slightest bit tired of it. Seth, as well as the eight other musicians within the project, are able to capture a classic country-folk sound from the past and make it fresh again.
I've been begging for the opportunity to feature this album on I Found This Song In The Road for months, and now it's here! I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do.

Lohio

Pittsburgh, PA, for all intents and purposes, is my hometown. I grew up 30 miles outside the city on the backwater side of the tracks, can't figure out which bridge takes me where, and use "y'all" instead of "yinz" (also: Go Pens!). That said, I must concede I ain't really as in touch with the local scene as I should be, which I now sorely regret due to my heretofore lack of even cursory knowledge of a band called Lohio (pronounced "Low-High-Oh").

I first heard the song "Modern Days" from their 2008 album History, the Destroyer on an internet radio station called soma.fm (great stuff, scope it out if you're at all into musical discovery). I really dug it. Airy, sunny, and catchy, with loping basslines that spread like hot butter. The lead singer, Greg Dutton, comes on with a light, earnest croon and heartfelt lyrics that garner a lot of Shins comparisons but remind me more of Mark Mulcahy at his most poignant.

As things are wont to go with a burned-out college student, the song totally slipped my mind for a month until I read an article in Penn State's newspaper regarding their upcoming performance on campus. I got psyched, because not only did I learn they're from Pittsburgh, but also that, holy shits, free performance by a band that isn't immediately terrible!

So the set was today and, on a gorgeous day like this was in central PA, with the sun shining through the floor-to-ceiling windows, a band like Lohio was the perfect complement. Despite the small and somewhat unenthusiastic audience of maybe 30 or 40 at peak, the band was having a good time (especially the bassist, Liz, who laughed through the last couple songs) and it beamed through in their music. Everything meshed; Greg's guitar shone, Liz's bass danced and rolled, Sven's skins coiled and struck at all the appropriate moments, and Alex's keys impressed, seemingly holding the rest of the band by marionette wires.

They played all their songs with a sure-footed sound you'd expect in a band that's been on the road and developing in a steady iteration for way longer; the mix of influences they bring to the table (90s alt-rock, folk, alt-country, everything good and decent about the American indie rock scene, and on and on) can get muddled and undercut by bands with a lesser grip on form; Lohio never lets songs like Old Orchard Beach or Grandfather's Chaise, the former a nifty heartfelt pop-rocker with a slick rhythm bounce and hooky chorus that reminded me instantly of Wilco's "Heavy Metal Drummer" and the latter a stroll through the (alt-)country with a creamy psych-rock center, slip into a monotonous wreck of noise both familiar and unwelcome. Everything is uniquely their own, but recalls all the best emotions of everything that came before.

I should also mention that "Waiting for the End of the Summertime" might be my new summer anthem.

They rock, they're nice people, and they craft music as effortlessly refreshing as the spring breeze that it makes me long for on a day like this. Why did I move away from Pittsburgh? I'm missing the indie scene already.

Candy Hearts - Ripped Up Jeans & Silly Dreams

Hey guys, I'm back! And I'm back with a really, super awesome band. Candy Hearts is an indie/punk band with songs mostly about friends and life... and its awesome. Think P.S. Eliot, but a tad poppier. Or Lemuria, but there's no male vocals. There is a song for every mood on the album and that, at least to me, just helps to make a really good album. They've got the sad times songs, the good times songs, the just friends songs, and then there's the song with the lyrics, "We go to together like the alphabet and letters that spell out our names, so perfectly together." This record is just super rad, especially if you like pop-punk, indie, or catchy music at all.

Against Me! - White Crosses

Against Me! has a new album coming out called White Crosses that leaked. This is that leak. To be honest, it's like New Wave kind of feel starting off with the title track which is gonna be their single most likely. They've become more mainstream definitely. Maybe them leaving Fat Records made them less appealing or I'm just being conservative that "Oh, the band has changed so I don't like them". Either way, this album is pretty good, but I do miss their "As The Eternal Cowboy" sound. Tom Gabel's statement on the leak was "Our new album "White Crosses" leaked. No drama. Mrevaaaaa - THIS SODA. IT'S SO AMAZING.

This album is a diverse array of genres from 17 year old Tom Brennan that goes by Mrevaaaaa(Not pronounced Mr.). The first song I listened to was track 3 "You make me feel..." and I was entirely impressed. The beats are well put together and it somehow got stuck in my head for a couple days. The album itself seems to make fun of music taking influences from Math The Band and Bomb The Music Industry! Lyrically, it's part teen angst, part satire, part music you write for a girl. Deep down though, I think the kid's just having fun and writing music he can play for his friends. A quick note that in the zip file there are two versions of "You Make Me Feel..." and a track by "Vernon Kings" which I think is his rap group whatever you call it. I don't really know.

Enough Is Enough - Compilaton

Enough Is Enough is a compilation to benefit marriage equality. It's free but you are free to donate to the cause. I listened to it straight through today and I've gotta say that it's worth throwing some cash in. I only knew of Shook Ones, Calculator, and Bridge and Tunnel, but the other bands features are gonna be looked into further. Also, a lot of tracks are previously unreleased so that's a plus. This is Volume 1 and I'll let you guys know on further volumes being released. My friends Trunks and Tales will be featured on some upcoming volume which I'm excited because that means they'll be on the same compilation as some seriously great artists. I'm looking forward to Volume 2.
